Yes, it’s adorable, but it also demonstrates just how strong the follow instinct is at this age. We can take advantage of that and lock in some teachings about staying close to the human (think leash walking foundations and recall).

Recall is SET!

There is a rule against whistling in our house because we want the recall whistle to mean one thing and one thing only! The families are ready to reinforce this with high value treats, as the continued use of the recall whistle will lay the foundation for a solid lifetime recall.

Such an easy thing to start in puppyhood that forever changes the ease of setting a recall.

The deliciousness. When they are awake, our focus is on experiences. New places to eat, new smells, new people. But all of these experiences require a tremendous amount of sleep for memory consolidation to occur. There is a cadence to their day that will be continued by their families once they are home (the schedule in Puppy Brain). This helps them grow into resilient, socially flexible dogs!

Is there anything better than a puppy in a baking dish? This was an accidental discovery – one of the delightful things that puppies randomly do and that tells us something about what they like (and in all fairness, it was my friend Rudy who discovered it!).

For whatever reason, they like the hard cool surface of a baking dish. And I suspect that they also like the way that it contains them - thus the cute little curling happening here.

Behavior is data, so I’m curious - what do you think this behavior is telling us?

Novel items are a cornerstone of our rearing protocols, as exposure to a vast array of smells, textures, and appearance helps develop the library of “familiar” in that puppy Brain. It also helps develop resilience, as they build confidence in these interactions.

The only consolation prize for how impossible today’s PYF (pick your fav) selection is that you will be tortured with the embodiment of goodness and joy in all of these faces.

To offset what will surely be a combination of incomplete answers, such as “I choose all of them” or “my favorite is 1-10”, extra credit will be given for efforts to caption a particular picture or provide an explanation of why a selection moves you.
