Excuse the bad lighting in the pig house. I even turned off the red light and opened the door, but it’s still too dark. Just wanted to show Mama Daffodil with her litter of two. The little black boy (who looked fake in his last pic, lol) is not the same piglet I shared nursing yesterday.

Mama Daffodil was born in 2016. Because of her small size, this is only the second time I have bred her. I am expecting one more litter that I am accepting deposits on and then there will be a break. Since my breeders are on the smaller side, I don’t get big litters—so if you see a “Mini Pig” with 6+piglets, I'd question if it's really a Mini Pig and not a full Potbelly.

Sometimes people see a photo of a piglet and assume it’s been separated from its mother, when in reality she’s often just a few steps away, out of frame. I do not remove piglets from their moms to bottle or pan-feed, and there are several important reasons for this. Nursing ensures that piglets receive colostrum, rich in antibodies, and milk with the perfect balance of protein, fat, sugar, enzymes, and vitamins. Regular nursing promotes steady weight gain, stronger piglets, and higher survival rates.

Piglets nurse around 24 times a day, and there’s no way I could keep up with night feedings. I value my sleep, and I also want healthy piglets. The mother will eventually decide when it’s time to wean, when she begins pushing them away, that’s my cue to start the process. There’s no “one age fits all”; every mom and litter is different, and I let them set the pace.

All I did was use a camera instead of my phone and I used shake reduction. All the pig rooms have a red light and poor lighting. I'm trying to get the best pics I can.

I just received an update on Cucumber. “She is the sweetest love bug ever. She doesn’t fuss when you pick her up. She is best friends with the dogs. She’s so good with roaming around and then going in her area to sleep, eat and go to the bathroom. She loves going to soccer games in her stroller and loves all the attention she gets. She tends to migrate towards kids. She has stairs for the couch and anytime anyone is on the couch she will get up and cuddle with you and take a nap. When I told my mom that I was getting her she wasn’t very supportive. Now she comes over weekly to give her “grandchild” kisses and take her on a walk. We absolutely adore our blue eye baby! I couldn’t find her for ten minutes and she was behind the pillow on the couch sleeping haha. She’s still so tiny people think she’s a newborn and not 8 months old.”
