Continuing the Education Journey! 🎓

I have been through a lot of schooling in my life and am always trying to learn as much as possible. A couple weeks ago I was accepted into an Entrepreneurial Program for Veterans provided by the University of Missouri and the Dept of Veterans Affairs and Veterans United. It was a competitive selection process that involved writing a essay, getting letters of recommendation and an interview to be one of 16 veterans who own their own business to be selected. The program paid for my travel, lodging and catered all of our food and we had the opportunity to learn from a multitude of world class professors and top people of different industries. It was a very productive week and inspired me to enroll in classes at SIUE this fall! Thank you to Mizzou, Veterans United and the VA for putting together a great program and to my wife Carly for holding down the fort while I was gone.

Getting a dog to relax in the down position is one of the main behaviors I teach. I do it differently, I don’t force them into it and I don’t correct them for getting up, I just let them figure out where their best place to be is and create a default behavior. Whether we are at Busch Stadium, Home Depot or the veterinarian, the down is the position I want the dog watching the world go by in!

11 different dogs, different breeds, ages and sizes. All have world class off leash recalls installed on them.

The off leash recall is the foundation of our training. It’s unanimously agreed on as the most important command among pro trainers. It’s the main characteristic every trainer should be judged on. If you can’t produce a solid off leash recall, you’re gonna have a hard time getting anything impressive after that. The speed on a recall is engagement personified.
