🐾Today, March 23rd marks National Puppy Day. 🐾 Old Dog is celebrating the occasion with this PAWSOME duo and their story. Adopted in 2019, Cameo is one lucky dog. We say this A LOT but our customers are truly the best!!! 🥰 We know many of you have opened up your homes to adoption, fostering, volunteering along with providing all the love and nutritional care that comes with caring and owning a dog. Let's take a moment to honor the bond between people and their pets (like Suzie Peck her dog Cameo) and reflect on how we can make the world a better place for our furry companions.
Shout out to Bichon And Little Buddies Rescue where Cameo was adopted from and New England Lab Rescue where 2 years ago Old Dog Cookie Company rescued our very own "Rosie". We truly thank these organizations and the many others that devote so much to our canine friends. 🥰🐾

February is Pet Dental Month and no bones about it we get lots of comments about "WHY A HARD TREAT?". Our decision to offer a hard treat was a purposeful one, so let's explain why:
🐾 80-90% of dogs over the age of 3 have some degree of dental disease. A NO sugar hard treat such as ours can help reduce plaque and tartar build up reducing the risk of gum disease or tooth decay.
🐾 Since so many of our pet parents have diabetic dogs we felt strongly that NOT adding a chemical preservative in our treats was best. MOST soft treats require a chemical preservative to maintain their texture and shelf life!!
🐾Hard treats do provide more mental stimulation and exercise the jaw muscles releasing endorphins that can help decrease stress levels.
🐾Harder treats generally take longer for dogs to eat which can keep them occupied longer.
🐾Chewing is a natural behavior for dogs. Hard treats give them something safe to chew on (vs something dangerous in your house).
🐾At the Old Dog us humans always have treats in our pockets. This has nothing to do with the dogs, but harder treats are just less messy for humans, especially if you are like me and don't catch some before they go through the wash 😜

If your dog has diabetes, you likely monitor their diet carefully. One area for many dog owners in general that gets overlooked is their dental health. Poor oral hygiene in dogs, especially those with diabetes can lead to health complications, including making it harder to control blood sugar levels.

Are you aware of Apple and Apricot Month? Well apparently it's in January. We decided a great way to close out the month would be to highlight our use of apples with our Old Dog treats. The celebration of apples (in January) began as a way to start the year off with healthy eating habits and to highlight their importance and nutritional value in our diets. One of the BEST parts of this job is truly getting to know our clients and their dogs. One of the worst parts is receiving a message that their dog has crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈🐾. We have all been there and the void hurts like hell! Last February we sent Waylon his diabetic treats and a card for his upcoming 15th birthday (which 15 years is seriously AMAZING!!). While I was so sad this week to learn of his passing it's an honor to know how important our treats have been to his diabetic journey.

"To the very end he never said no to one of your Old Dog cookies. Waylon had a wonderful life He fought diabetes for 6 years and like I said he LOVED those cookies. Thanks for making my boy happy (esp. after those insulin shots). God Bless your family and company."

Knowing the impact our treats had for Waylon and receiving a message like that fills our hearts despite the loss. All of us at Old Dog will certainly miss processing Waylon's orders and no words can truly express our sympathy to his pet parents. We only hope that all our Old Dogs - Jetty, Spirit and Olive have found Waylon and are all enjoying some Old Dog treats.

We love a feel good moment! This past Monday, Cameo celebrated her 6th Gotcha Day with her pet parent. Everyone should really have a day like this!! Cameo - you are one lucky dog!!!

At the Old Dog Cookie Company we love sharing in these special pet moments with your canines. While Cameo is NOT diabetic, Cameo's pet parent has been with us since 2017 buying our diabetic treats. Her past dog Oreo, which we have featured before was diabetic. Cameo skipped her diet on Monday to celebrate, but Tuesday it was all Old Dog (TINY) diabetic treats which her mom says help her watch her doggie figure.

Thanks Cameo and your mom for spreading some joy on this Friday because really who doesn't just love a doggie pawty!!! 🥰🐾🦴🥳🎊🎉🎈 ❤️
