Welcome to our new segment we are calling Medical Mondays, with our in-house vet, Dr. Gooden! 🩺
We want to start sharing more stories with you all to show you what your support helps us achieve. The first Monday of every month, we will share the story of an animal that we have been able to help above and beyond our typical illnesses. We look forward to sharing these stories with you all and hope you get as much joy out of them as we do. Let's introduce Dr. Gooden first:
"My grandma was always a lover of all types of animals. She would help incubate eggs in the windowsill earning herself the nickname "Sunshine." She would keep bottle lambs in the house and put sweaters on premature calves. She was instrumental in helping me become the person and veterinarian that I am today."
"When we had our blue coat ceremony (celebration of transitioning from classroom to clinicals in vet school), there is no one I wanted to be there more, and I don't think there was anyone more proud of me. She continues to be an inspiration and her love for animals continues to guide many of my decisions."
"I don't think it was a surprise to anyone who knows me to see that I began working at ECCHA last year. Since I have been at ECCHA, we have been able to help so many animals that may have otherwise been euthanized due to financial and other constraints of handling emergency surgeries and hospitalizations. Having a veterinarian on staff helps leave more funds open for the medical needs that we cannot meet here. We still heavily rely on our veterinary community to aid with radiographs, after-hours care, dentals, etc. This also means, we are relying on the community to help by donating to our medical funds still-we cannot do what we do here or utilize our amazing veterinary partners without funding."
"Of course, my family hears all kinds of stories about my adventures as a vet. Recently, after one such conversation, my mom decided to use money from my grandma's estate to donate to the Mettler Medical Fund, which goes directly to the care of pets with emergency illnesses, like amputations, mastitis, or other life-saving surgeries."
