Exciting and exhausting day yesterday in Muckdog land! Sway delivered 8 healthy puppies! 4 males and 4 females! We are extremely excited for them and their future handlers!

Went to the Wisconsin/Minnesota Network event today to present a training seminar but managed to test our little Plott Rhonda due to a cancellation from another team. Rhonda looked fantastic despite my handling error near the end of the track misreading my GPS and pulling her off multiple times when she was correct. Tests can be humbling even to very experienced handlers. Thankfully she was resilient and continued wanting to take the right direction. Congrats to all of the successful handlers on their tests today and also to those who have the courage to show up and test. There’s always something to be learned on these evaluations! Also a big thanks to those who put the event together and made things run smoothly..,this is no small task! Much appreciated!

Find what motivates each dog. We do not have a cookie cutter training program. This young dog wasn’t responding to a standard approach. We found his obsession and used it to create a motivation to track. He is obsessed with chasing and fetching but we withhold it and he only gets it when he completes a track. Find what motivates your dog and use it to your advantage!

We spent the last several days down in Georgia at our Klub fur Bayerisher Gebirgsschweisshund Group North America Vorprufung. It was great seeing so many old friends and also some new! All of our hard work with Ike the past almost 2 yrs was put to the test with performance, obedience and conformation testing. I am very proud to say that Ike passed all portions of the test with very high scores qualifying him for breeding. As a group this was our most successful Vorprfung to take so I’m also very proud of the commitment to training of all of those that tested! Special thanks to our German judges Sven and Michael for making the trip to not only judge our dogs but the unwavering support they’ve given us! It is truly incredible to see people so passionate about maintaining the integrity of this great breed! Thank you to Ken Parker our club chairman for organizing and hosting the event and Bryan Whittington and his grandchildren and everyone else who had a part in feeding us wonderful meals and for their tireless work. Thank you to Kevin Vollmer for laying tracks for us and being an extra set of eyes when training our rigorous obedience standards. I am forever grateful that I have someone willing to go the extra mile to help us succeed! Also to my mother, mother in law, sister and brother in law for their help transporting our boys. Lastly to my amazing wife for supporting me through this obsession with these dogs…I really couldn’t do any of it without her or the small village that it takes to make things work!

We are hard at it prepping Ike for his Vorprufung in a little over 3 weeks. This is a pic after some down/stay work out of sight with gunfire. He didn’t move during his 10 min after the shot! There are several areas of obedience along with tracking during this test so there is a good amount to prepare for. Thanks Kevin Vollmer for all your help in getting him prepared!

We are a day late but Happy Birthday to this little powerhouse! Sway turned 6 yesterday..in 5 full time seasons of tracking she has amassed 437 recoveries. She’s really changed the way we look at and evaluate tracking dogs. I’m very fortunate to get to walk behind her…she truly is one of a kind! I have to thank Matt Wilkes, Eric Johnson and the KBGS-GNA for giving me the opportunity to own her!
