Crooked Tails Veterinary Clinic Crooked Tails is Prineville's only locally owned and independently operated veterinary clinic. We are a small clinic.

This means you get personal, dedicated care and get to know the people caring for your animal. We believe that everyone should be able to afford care for their animals. We want to keep our community’s pets well-cared for and healthy, which in turn means less abandoned and feral animals.

Just a reminder about our cancellation policy:

At Crooked Tails Veterinary Clinic, we understand circumstances can change, and we request clients notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows us to manage our schedule effectively and offer the time slot to another patient in need. For Monday appointments, cancellations must me made by noon on the Friday before the appointment. Contact can be made by phone, leaving a voicemail or emailing to [email protected].

Cancellations or Rescheduling with less than 24 hours notice or No Shows will result in the charge of a booking fee applied to your account. This charge will have to be paid prior to further appointments being scheduled. In addition, a booking fee paid in advance will also be required in order to schedule appointments moving forward. The booking fee for an exam appointment is $50. The booking fee for a surgery appointment is $100.

We are already seeing fleas and ticks this year on some of our patients. The pictures below are from patients that had not traveled outside Central Oregon.

We often are asked, 'Do we have fleas in Central Oregon?', the answer is yes we do. We and other veterinary clinics are seeing more cases of them. Fleas can be transmitted to both dogs and cats. Fleas can cause mild to severe itching and discomfort to skin problems and infections. They can transmit tapeworms. Fleas will sometimes bite humans which can cause an itchy rash and small bleeding bumps.

Ticks can be harmful to dogs, cats, and humans. Ticks can transmit many kinds of pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses. They carry diseases that are transmittable to humans like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and other very serious illnesses. If you like to hike or camp, spending time outdoors with your pets be sure to check them and yourself for ticks.

The best way to protect them is with preventatives. If you have any questions regarding how to protect your furry family members please let us know. Call us at 541-362-866 or email at [email protected].

It's that time of year again, we are already seeing several cases of cheat grass. Be sure to check your pets after being outside. Check their paws, between their toes and pads, ears (especially if they have longer hair) and their mouths.

Attached is a great article that Central Oregon Daily News recently broadcasted.

Have a great and safe Summer!

Central Oregon vets are warning dog owners about a rise in grass seed injuries this year due to the wetter-than normal winter and early spring. We were in the operating room Monday as dozens of seeds were pulled out of a dog named Ellie Jo, including from her paws, ears, nose, mouth -- and other pla...

It's that time of year. We are already seeing both fleas and ticks. Are your furry family members protected again them?

Fleas can quickly infest homes, while ticks can be a problem in yards. Fleas and ticks can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and transmit diseases to humans and other animals.

We have preventatives here at Crooked Tails Veterinary Clinic, let us know if you have questions or are needing some preventative for your furry family members.
