Situation with Miami dade shelter as well as Rescues
Happening now & Help is needed now !
I understand that many caring people went out to the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter this week to voice concerns about the difficult situation the animals are facing. I truly appreciate everyone who speaks up for animals . Your passion and compassion are needed now more than ever.
At the same time, I hope we can all take a moment to think about the reality that animal control, shelters, and rescues are facing right now. Not just in Miami-Dade, but across our entire community and beyond. Rescues are full. Shelters are overwhelmed. There are simply too many animals and not enough safe places for them to go.
How can animal control or rescues help if there are no long-term fosters, not enough volunteers, and thousands of people with empty yards who do not want to take on the responsibility of caring for a dog? How can shelters do more when there is nowhere else for these animals to go? Shelters and rescues cannot keep “warehousing” dogs without an exit plan . It is not sustainable, safe, or fair to the animals.
So, while protesting and raising awareness are important, I invite everyone who cares deeply to also consider helping in other ways: fostering, volunteering, spreading the word to responsible adopters, or encouraging neighbors to open their homes and yards to an animal in need.
Many who showed up at the shelter this week already do so much . You volunteer, you foster, you advocate. Thank you for that. But we need more people to do the same, or nothing will change.
The truth is, we all have to be part of the solution. The animals need more than signs. They need homes, fosters, and a community willing to share the responsibility.
Thank you for caring, and for doing your part however you .
