Daisy Update

We are pleased to provide an update on Daisy, who was adopted by Ryan.

A couple of weeks ago, Daisy was attacked by a husky while out on a routine walk with Ryan. Two other dogs, a Yorkie and a French bulldog, were also involved in the incident. Thankfully, Ryan acted immediately, intervening and rushing Daisy to the veterinarian for emergency care.

We greatly appreciate Ryan’s quick response and his diligence in keeping us informed throughout Daisy’s recovery. His swift action undoubtedly played a critical role in saving Daisy’s life.

On Saturday, Daisy visited Western University Veterinary Hospital to have her staples removed. According to Ryan, she has shown incredible resilience and strength throughout this difficult experience and continues to recover well.

We would also like to thank everyone who sent positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes for Daisy. Your support has meant a great deal, and we are happy to report that Daisy is continuing to heal and thrive.

Way to go, Daisy! We’re all rooting for your continued recovery. ❤️

We cannot believe it’s been 8 years! Happy birthday Mochi 💕💕💕

From her dad, Will

“Happy Birthday to Mochi. Never a dull moment when she's around. I can't believe she's 8 years old, seems like yesterday when she came into our world. She's such a good girl.”

We love updates about previous GLAR rescues! So great to see them living their best lives!

“Happy Birthday week to this cutie. Reginald Beaumont aka Stinka-pants Johnson. When he's not busy being cute or barking at the neighbors who have the audacity to be enjoying their own backyard, he's sleeping like he pays all the bills. ❤️🐕” from his mom, Karen!

One of the special challenges of loving senior dogs: every now and then they do something that makes you think you’ve just witnessed a medical emergency, only to discover they’re perfectly fine.

Tiny has mastered the art of giving heart attacks to his human. One minute he’s walking around normally, and the next he’s flat on his back with his legs in the air, eyes open, tongue hanging out, looking like he has completely left this world. Then you call his name, and he pops up like nothing happened.

And the sleeping thing is just as bad. Senior dogs can sleep so deeply that you find yourself staring at their chest, trying to detect the slightest movement, or putting your hand near their nose to make sure they’re still breathing. Meanwhile, they’re having the best nap of their lives while you’re contemplating an emergency vet visit.

The price of loving old dogs is that they keep finding new ways to scare us. The reward is that every time they wake up, stretch, and look at us like we’re the ones acting weird, we get another day with them. ❤️🐾

If you would like to experience this experience, you can apply for tiny at www.gunterslegacy.org/adopt

He really is an absolutely amazing dog. He is part pug and part Chihuahua. He’s a little on the chubby side at 12 pounds. He is housebroken he loves going for walks. He loves being held. He lays on his back in your arms. He would make a fantastic companion for a senior who’s looking for company. But the truth is tiny loves everybody. He would be fantastic in any family.

Meet Stella 🤍

Stella is a 10-year-old miniature poodle weighing just 12 pounds, and she’s looking for a quiet, loving home to spend her golden years in.

This sweet girl came from a breeding situation and spent much of her life having puppies. Now that she’s finally spayed, it’s her turn to be cared for, cherished, and loved simply for who she is.

Stella is housebroken, leash trained, and very low-key. She’s an aloof little lady who enjoys peace and routine, though every now and then she gets excited and breaks out into the cutest little gallop. 🥹

She does have some medical needs. Stella is in the beginning stages of kidney disease and is currently doing well on a prescription diet and medication. She also has arthritis and takes gabapentin to help keep her comfortable. She goes to the groomer once a month and handles her routine well.

While Stella is good with dogs and cats, she isn’t interested in playing and would do best as the only dog in the home where she can enjoy a calm environment and all the love and attention to herself.

Stella is currently being fostered in Pomona, California.

What Stella truly needs is simple:
A soft bed.
A gentle human.
A peaceful home.
And someone willing to love a senior girl who deserves to know what it feels like to finally belong. 💕

Every morning, Hunter and I go for walks together. ❤️ It seems to make him happy, and honestly, I think he looks forward to them now.

Since losing his person, Hunter has just seemed… sad. I haven’t quite figured out how to help heal that kind of heartbreak yet.

He came to us overweight, but lately he’s been losing weight rapidly, which has been concerning. We’ve already done bloodwork and x-rays, and thankfully nothing major was found. But one thing is very clear: this little guy desperately needs a dental. His teeth are in rough shape, his breath is horrible, and I truly believe his mouth is causing him pain and making it difficult for him to eat comfortably.

Because of his age, Hunter also needs a cardio workup prior to anesthesia to make sure he can safely undergo his dental procedure.

We currently have THREE senior dogs needing dentals — one is already scheduled for June — and we’re hoping to get Hunter and Little Bit (the dog he came in with) taken care of as quickly as possible.

As always, I hate asking for help, but senior dogs come with senior medical needs, and the costs add up quickly. If you would like to help Hunter, here are ways you can donate:

🐾 Donate online: https://www.gunterslegacy.org/donations
🐾 Or call Western University Pet Health Center directly at (909) 865-2433 and make a donation toward Hunter’s dental and cardio workup.

Every donation, share, and kind word helps more than you know. ❤️

Please keep Daisy in your thoughts today. This morning while out on her regular walk in San Dimas with her adopter Ryan, Daisy was attacked by a loose husky accompanied by a loose Yorkie and French bulldog. The smaller dogs approached first, and then the husky attacked Daisy. Ryan rushed her to the emergency vet in Covina, and thankfully she is expected to be okay.
We do not know who the dogs belong to. If anyone witnessed this incident or recognizes these dogs, please reach out. We are incredibly grateful Ryan acted so quickly and that Daisy is safe.

Just an update on Harvey… he is in his forever home and very loved. ❤️

Unlike his sibling Maris, Harvey is absolutely adorable. 😘 Just joking — they are both absolutely adorable!

Harvey is really coming out of the shell he was in. He’s becoming so brave and so handsome. He now gets to go on walks, and his mom even pushes him around in a cart, which he loves. Everywhere he goes, people fall in love with him.

Harvey’s hobbies include stealing cat food when his mom’s not looking, looking adorable in the hats his mom makes him wear, and making people swoon over him when his mom takes him out for walks.

We are so happy to see Harvey thriving and enjoying the life he always deserved.

Meet Bruno — equal parts lovable, quirky, and full of personality. ❤️ He’s a very lucky dog to be fostered by Shelley another of our fabulous fosters.

Bruno is an Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix looking for a patient, understanding home that will appreciate him for the unique little guy he is. Located in Sacramento, California, Bruno is about 3 years old, weighs approximately 8 pounds, and is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and currently on medication for seizures.

Bruno can be a bit “talkative” and sometimes communicates with growling sounds that may seem intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, you realize it’s often just Bruno being Bruno. He responds very well to calm reassurance, gentle handling, and people who understand that not every vocal dog is an aggressive dog.

The good news? Bruno no longer has had any bite incidences since arriving in foster care and continues to make progress every day.

Here’s what his foster family has learned about him:
🐾 Very friendly with strangers
🐾 Good with children (currently does great with a young grandson)
🐾 Loves daily walks and walks well on leash
🐾 Gets along with other dogs and cats
🐾 Currently walks regularly with a large golden retriever to help build confidence and social skills
🐾 Would thrive in a home where someone is around much of the time
🐾 Needs an adopter with patience and a sense of humor for his goofy, “kooky” personality

Bruno also has a bit of a marking habit right now, which his foster family is continuing to work on.

What Bruno really needs is someone willing to see past first impressions and appreciate the sweet, funny dog underneath. He is not a perfect dog — but he is a very lovable one. And for the right person, he is going to be an incredibly rewarding companion.

If you are interested in meeting and potentially adopting Bruno, please complete our adoption application at:

Please share to help Bruno find his person. 🐶❤️

Ps. The first pictures are new pictures when we first got him. The last picture is after he’s had his nails trim so don’t worry as a Rescue. We know that we’re supposed to trim the dogs nails.

This brand new peer-reviewed clinical review highlights emerging safety concerns around anti nerve growth factor arthritis injections like Librela and Solensia. Based on post marketing reports and clinical observations, some dogs developed unusually rapid joint deterioration after treatment, including faster than normal arthritis progression, joint instability, and even structural collapse. In certain cases, these changes appeared after just one or two injections, while others developed more gradually over time. What makes these findings concerning is that they do not resemble typical arthritis, with veterinarians reporting abnormal bone formation, bone erosion, and widespread joint damage, sometimes affecting joints that were not previously identified as diseased. The review suggests a possible biological explanation, noting that nerve growth factor plays a role not only in pain signaling but also in maintaining joint health, meaning blocking it could interfere with the joint’s ability to adapt or repair. While these observations do not prove causation, they raise important questions and highlight the need for careful monitoring and further research.
