**URGENT NEED FOR HOST HOMES & FOSTERS FROM TX FLOOD IMPACTED SHELTERS & DISPLACED PETS**

Lifeline Oro Valley Animal Rescue is working with Best Friends with an immediate need to support the community & families devastated by the flooding in Kerr County and other impacted areas of Texas.

The need is for both cats and dogs.
LOVAR will transport /pick up and provide food and supplies.
Our goal for displaced pets will be to host animals while we seek to find their families and return/reunite where possible
Our goal for shelter pets will be to answer their call for help for shelters flooded and to provide a lifeline for those dogs and cats.
We realize there is already a need to help with pets here in our own county but we also can not ignore animals and communities that have no help following a disaster of this magnitude. LOVAR will continue to work and help those in need locally where able.

If you can step up to help these flooded communities in TX already dealing with massive loss and tragedy by giving space to a dog or cat in your home, please respond with the information below to [email protected] or contact 520-979-2282 / 520-850-3592.

If you can’t help but are interested in helping in other ways, please let us know by emailing or calling.

Update on Bailey who made his debut at PetCo today. This has been written by his current foster.
"He's about a year old, born and raised outside, until his mother adopted an elderly man. In the beginning they were living both inside and out. He is now an INDOORS cat only.
Bailey loves people. He's been learning to be a lap cat and loves to chase a mouse on a string. His white coat, beige markings and blue eyes make for some beautiful pictures. He's had his shots, neutered, microchipped and dewormed. His blood work for FIV and other common diseases were all negative. He's ready to find his forever home where he can be the center of attention."

***Would like to update this post with how these donations were made possible. Please see below.***

Last week LOVAR received a request from Nejlah Hummer who works with ALMA, a mutual aid group in the Amphi neighborhood to provide food, water, hygiene supplies, wound care, and other goods and services free of charge to any and all in the neighborhood, including a large population of unhoused people and their pets. We were asked specifically for the items listed below, which we gladly donated today.
1. Dog food
2. Pet shoes (urgent need right now due to the high temperatures)
3. Leashes and collars
4. Toys
5. Misc. dog items such as beds, blankets, bowls, etc.

" donations include items we have kindly received from our partners & Nero and YOU, the public who have donated towels, gently used pet items. We strive to put every donated item to use with our own rescue animals as well as others in need in the community. Thank you for your continued support it forward #.

We are all anxiously waiting for the monsoons to hopefully cool us down, if even for a short period of time. Along with the monsoons come the poisonous Colorado River Toads. According the the Sonora Desert Museum, the toads secrete extremely potent toxin that are released from several glands.

The toxin is described by the Aquarium of the Pacific as being white, milky and liquid in appearance.

“Animals that harass this species generally are intoxicated through the mouth, nose, or eyes. Dog owners should be cautious: the toxins are strong enough to kill full grown dogs that pick up or mouth the toads.”

SYMPTOMS OF POISONED PETS Excessive salivation Irregular heartbeat & gait Pawing at the mouth

According to the Sonora Desert Museum if a dog displays any of the symptoms described above, a person should use a garden hose to rinse out it's mouth from back to front and consult a veterinarian.

Hi everyone, my name is Sarge and am asking for your help to keep all the furbabies safe today and this whole weekend.

🐾 Make sure all of us are kept indoors.
🐾 Keep us in a safe, quiet room or crate, for our comfort.
🐾 Turn on the TV or some relaxing music to help distract from the noise of the fireworks.
🐾 Have a selection of our favorite blankets, lovies and chew toys on hand to keep us busy.
🐾 If some of us are particularly scared or anxious during storms, etc, don't forget those natural calming remedies, a thunder shirt, or if needed, or the prescription you have already gotten from our veterinarians.
🐾 After the fireworks are over, be sure to check our yards for any leftover debris that may have ended up there or thrown over the fence before you let us out the next morning.
Please keep us all safe! 🐶🐱
Love, Sarge💙💙

July 4th 🇺🇸 is Friday, and many celebrations will be starting early and continuing through the weekend

While many of us will be happy and excited to hear and see the fireworks 🎇🎉, remember your pets may very well not be overjoyed during this loud occasion! In fact, July 5th is often the busiest day of the year for intakes at our county shelters from scared animals who have escaped their homes and yards! Please note the shelters are all already over capacity! 😿

🐾 Now is a great time to prepare by making sure your pets are microchipped, as tags and collars can come off. If your animals are chipped, now is a good time to make sure your contact information is up to date!

🐾 If you have a particularly scared or anxious pup during storms, etc, consider getting some natural calming remedies, a thunder shirt, or if needed, a prescription from your veterinarian.
