Yesterday we said goodbye to Charlie who was an important member of the GRRR family. In the summer of 2021, Charlie’s family reached out to us because they were no longer able to care for him. He was nine years old at that time and he transitioned into Lynn’s home where he became a cherished family member in her household. Yesterday he passed away after a battle with cancer. Initially he was a cranky old man but through Lynn’s kindness and love he mellowed over the last few years and truly was a happy and loving soul. We will miss his bark, his presence, his shining light. We know he is now gone but he will live in our hearts forever. Goodbye Charlie. You are going to be missed by many.

When we rescued Scout a year ago from Chatham County Animal Services, she was heartworm positive faced with a disease that has a fatal ending if not treated. We treated her for heartworm disease and yesterday she visited Eastside Veterinary Hospital and received an all clear on her heartworm diagnosis. We are overjoyed that our work with Scout has produced a happy ending and she and her loving mom (pictured) celebrate a loving relationship every day!

Yesterday we said goodbye to Channing. When sweet little Channing was adopted in July of 2019 it was a happy day for him, his mom and GRRR. Unfortunately in July of 2024, Channing lost his mom to cancer and he was returned to GRRR. His new foster mom quickly fell in love with him and became his new adopted mom. Once again Channing found forever and his last stop loved.

Yesterday we lost Channing to heart disease and his presence in our lives will be incredibly missed. Channing was truly a kind and sweet soul and he will live in our hearts forever.

Rocky visited Savannah Veterinary Medical Center and spent the day for a retest on his cortisol levels. This after starting a new medication one month ago. Rocky has Cushing’s disease.

Cushing's disease in dogs, also known as hyperadrenocorticism, is an endocrine disorder where the adrenal glands overproduce cortisol. Overproduction can lead to many different types of health complications if not treated.

In Rocky’s situation, Cushing’s disease has caused Calcinosis Cutis. This is a condition where calcium deposits form under the skin, leading to painful, thick, plaque-like areas.

The good news for Rocky is that we have brought his cortisol levels down and we now hope his skin will clear next. Your support and donations to the GRRR rescue helps us manage chronic disease in dogs like Rocky. For that he says thank you!

You have three options to help.
Visit https://donorbox.org/patrick-lil-bit-s-medical-fund to assist with medical or there are two other ways to help listed below.

Here is Patrick and Lil’ Bit’s story. Nine year old Patrick and his sister Lil Bit have been living alone in their deceased owner’s home for well over one year. While we have been attempting to find a foster home for them, there has been a genuine lack of interest from the community to assist. The neighbor feeds them daily and they have a doggie door to go in and out. The family of the deceased person keeps the power on so at least they have heat in winter.

On Thursday, Perry and LeeAnn from GRRR picked them up and took them for exams, HW testing and rabies shots done at Eastside Veterinary Hospital. We returned them to the house at the completion of our visit as we still don’t have a foster. We also presented this case to Renegade Paws Rescue as their audience is wider in hopes that they might find a foster. Regardless of whichever rescue finds a foster, we need to get them out ASAP as it has been determined by Dr. Becker that Patrick will require life saving surgery in the very near future. You have three options as to how you might help.

One. You can foster. They are gentle, kind dogs and very sociable. They’ve lived with cats. Reach out to LeeAnn at (912) 308-9231

Two. Donate towards their medical fund. Patrick has three tumors and is heartworm positive. Lil Bit has a growth in her eye and a mass in her leg. We need to schedule surgeries in the very near future. Visit https://donorbox.org/patrick-lil-bit-s-medical-fund

Three. Until we find a place for them to go, assist us in visiting them, spending a little time with them and letting them know we care. These are two seniors who deserve a lot better than the sh*tty outcome they have arrived at. They are in Garden City off 80 between Savannah and Pooler. Text Perry at (912) 695-2415 if you could give an hour on a regular day once or twice a week. Thank you.

Our Story

Founded in 2011, GRRR is a small 501(c)(3) rescue organization that serves Savannah, Georgia and the surrounding counties. We are dedicated to rescuing small dogs under 30 lbs. in size from owners who are no longer able to care for them, from public shelters without a “no-kill” policy, and from situations where they have suffered abuse or neglect. We are committed to helping both the most needy and the more readily adoptable animals in our community. GRRR places a large emphasis on working with senior dogs who are overlooked by most people when they are adopting a dog. We have rescued many senior dogs, insuring that their last years are comfortable, loved and happy. All donations made are tax deductible, and every dollar goes directly to the care of our animals. All of our rescues are spayed or neutered, receive proper veterinary treatment, and are placed in loving foster homes while awaiting adoption. To meet a pet of interest please complete an adoption application at grrrsavesdogs.org and we will contact you to discuss adoption opportunities.
