The Mustang Roll Barefoot Trimming I do a PROPER barefoot trim, modeled after the wild horse hoof. My concern is always for the horse. Hi, I'm Melissa Tankersley!

I am a barefoot trimmer serving Polo and surrounding areas. I believe it is important to educate horse owners and caretakers about the horses hoof! I have experience with MANY problems, navicular, laminitis (founder), club feet, cracking and breaking, etc. I'm very patient and use a Hoof Jack so that I'm not putting your horses' legs in positions that are not comfortable for them. My main concern is for your horses and their comfort.

It was SO cold today. The wind made it brutal! Karen was as a trooper and froze her poor fingers….and opted to stay in the warm car for the last 2 appointments! I don’t blame her, if I could have trimmed from the car, I would have!

These horses are at the very top of my list as my favorite horses to trim. The family is so awesome, but these horses….they stand. Quietly. They do not yank and pull on me. They pick up each foot easily and quietly. And they are so sweet and personable!
They are out 24/7. On a lot of acreage, and it shows. We were well past due for our appointment given the distance and the weather, but those feet!! They were shaped nicely and I didn’t have to take much off at all.
It’s so nice to have an easy trip like this!!!

Charm. She’s done every 4 weeks and is currently transitioning from shoes to barefoot. She had a bit of a tough start, some just transition easily and some struggle a bit and need the help of boots or other things to help keep them comfortable as their hooves recover.
Really, there has been huge improvement in all 4 feet, but her front right is the worst and therefore taking a bit longer to develop concavity and adequate sole.
She’s mostly comfortable now though, just have to be patient and let that foot catch up!

Did a quick lameness exam on a horse. Trainer thought it was an abscess. I knew when I had trimmed him (he is new to a current client) that he was landing toe first , especially on his front right. He’s a little pigeon toed as well. His feet were very unbalanced.
Didn’t react at all to hoof testers. Could be a little arthritis, could be several other things. But so far the plan is to see how he gets along with a balanced trim and some good care, then X-rays later if he doesn’t improve.

Cash belongs to a very good friend of mine. Cash has horrible feet. Lol. He was born with them and no matter what we do, his feet are just junk. They have improved a good deal since I’ve been trimming him, but it’s still nowhere near where is like them to be. I’m determined though!

Please bear with me in this weather. I might have to reschedule people with no adequate indoor facilities in this frigid cold. It’s not pleasant for any of us. I desperately need to keep my hands warm in order to do my job. This is fairly easy indoors out of the wind, but impossible if we have to be outside.

It’s SO nice when clients remain on a very short trim schedule year round…..not only is my job easier, but the benefit to the horses in INCREDIBLE!! Just LOOK at the concavity in these feet y’all! Some of them are still in “recovery” and have a ways to go in terms of getting changes to happen on the inside. Changes happen FAST at this farm. Because not only are these horses on a 5 week schedule, CONSISTENTLY, they are on an anti-inflammatory diet, with a good vitamin/mineral supplement, and they are turned out and get ample movement. With a herd. They also get regular chiropractic care.
I’ve seen the horses when they get to this farm. Almost all of them came in rather rough shape to some degree. Physically and mentally. The changes in them are phenomenal.
It’s a pleasure to work at Tri-Circle Stables with Courtney Majors.

This guy is so funny and is full of personality! He’s diagnosed with Navicular….but that’s a highly over-diagnosed problem. We know his tendons are involved as he has a hard time in arena footing or anything too soft, as it requires his tendons to stretch more. If the bone was affected, his lameness would present more on hard found and concrete.

Who says Thoroughbreds can’t have decent feet? They can when the trim is right. It does help immensely to have a good diet, void of sugars, grain, and soy…. Though Thoroughbreds aren’t known to have very good feet, they’re only bred to run…. there are things you can do to help make them better.
It’s nice to just do maintenance trims too!

This funny, sweet girl. Maybe a little dramatic, but she’s so good!
She’s in the middle of the barefoot transition. Some horses do this with no problem, you can pull shoes and they act like nothing happened. And some struggle a little. They need frequent trims to help the hoof change faster. They need the support of boots to help their sore, thin soles. This girl needs a little help. But she’s improving, doing better each trim, and WILL be 100% sound.
And I can’t wait for this for her.
