Buying a well bred purebred dog does not sentence another dog to death.
Buying a well-bred purebred dog does not cause an increase in the number of dogs in the shelter.
A desire to have a dog with a predictable temperament from a healthy line does not lead to another dog not being adopted in the shelter.
It's not everyone suitable to get a dog "with a history" from a shelter either.
My careful research on the most responsible breeders who meet all requirements is not the problem. It's not what you should be mad at.
It's not what you should blame.
I'm not the one who irresponsibly brought these dogs into this world and left them in a shelter.
Responsible breeders are also not the ones who bring these dogs to shelters.
It's my home, my life and my choice what kind of dog I want to bring inside. Maybe I need a working dog, sport dog, show dog, or just a companion dog of a certain breed that would suit me best.
No matter what reason I choose to support a reputable breeder, no animal protection dog will be sent to death.
A breeder who has health tests, temperament tests and pedigrees for his dog does not contribute to the number of stray dogs.
The number of stray dogs in the world is a problem, but it's not a problem made worse by serious breeders and those who buy from them.
Your neighbor who quickly jumps over the border to some breeder and gets a "purebred" dog without papers because he's so cheap and poor, is contributing to the problem.
Your friend who spontaneously bought a puppy is contributing to the problem.
This person on "ebay classifieds" who reproduces the trendiest designer mix as quickly as possible is contributing to the problem.
Your relatives who have to have their dog covered once, "so that she can experience what it's like to be a mother once" or because "she's just so cute", contribute to the problem.
Your old schoolmate who bought a high energy hound dog without taking the time to research his needs and character, and ultimately sees that he doesn't fit well into his lifestyle, is contributing to the problem.
A serious breeder offers life long support. A serious breeder would never allow his dogs to end up in a shelter in the first place.
It's understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you look closer, you'll find your anger is out of place.
If you look closely, you'll find that serious breeders and those of us who buy dogs from them are as angry as you are.
AND: a good breeder also takes back a dog bought from him at any time - if it has to be.
We only point fingers at the real culprits.
