CHRN is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to keeping horses out of the slaughter pipeline. We try to reach horses before they end up at auction, so take relinquishments and offer a no questions asked buy out program state wide. Our central facility is located in Rush, however we have fosters state wide! We regularly assist local law enforcement, as well as buying slaughter bound horses from auction. Our community outreach programs include castration and euthanasia clinics.

It's been more than a year since Rocky joined us from auction. He was a thin, beat up stud needing gelded and some tlc. He has been lightly started but needs an experienced home or trainer to get him back on track! He's an easy keeper and a very attractive horse. He's likely around 7. Lives well with other horses. His adoption fee is being reduced through October to find him a great home that wants a handsome project horse. For only $250 you can adopt, or $0 up front for Trainer Release Program!

Another horse will forever join the herd in Linda's Pasture.

Cornelia came to us as a sheriff's case last month. She was bright, happy and gaining visible weight almost daily. 4 days ago she presented with colic like symptoms. We knew that with a heart murmur and long term starvation we were fighting an uphill battle but her perkiness had us all hopeful. She was eating until the moment she moved on to the meadow in the sky, always so glad the food was unlimited. Everyone at CHRN chipped in and made a huge effort for her, Dr King was out nightly and everyone took turns checking on her, making sure she had water and mash. I thank everyone for their help with her. Today she was only on her feet for less than 10 minutes and we couldn't manage her pain any longer. Her BFF Sargent Muffins was there with her all along. Sometimes we just get them too late, it's rare we can't get them to pull through. Still I wouldn't trade the last month of food and lovee for anything, and I know she wouldn't either.

It's been a bit since we had an urgent auction buy, but this poor girl sure qualifies 😒

This young mare sells today just after noon. I do not know if this is proud flesh or a sarcoid (I am not there and the mare is very flighty) but her prognosis is poor. We've dealt with this before with very poor results despite surgery and months of rehab. Regardless she needs help, either to heal or prevent further suffering. The flies this season are bad, I cannot imagine the agony she's in. Only a few hours to fundraise always leaves us short, and we do not have any auction funds currently. Please contribute if you can, every dollar counts in life of this poor filly.

Love updates on our rescue transfers! Itsy and Legend came to CHRN needing a LOT of training. Legend was a scrubby long yearling stud from auction and Itsy an owner surrender. After more than a year with Legend and several months with Itsy it was clear they were needing more dedicated training so we sent them to Horse Plus Humane Society where they got a LOT of great training and Itsy got adopted!

A little time with the Old Guy Pen at Headquarters. Every horse pictured arrived here as a body condition of 1, 2 or 3. Every day this pen by itself eats 100 lbs of hay pellets and 100 lbs of Triple Crown Senior. They also get free choice hay and Comfort Blocks. Every horse in this pen is over 20, some over 30.
Age is no excuse! If you feed Age appropriate diets many Senior horses will stay fat and happy for many, many years.
