Did you know…

Pets Come First is a non-profit organization, Adoption Center. We rely on fundraising and donations to keep the doors open and the animals fed. Because of a tight budget and limited space, we have to utilize a waiting list for animal surrenders. We ask that while you are on our wait list, or before making the decision to surrender your pet, that you check with your friends and fam

ily to see if they can help re-home the dog or cat. Ultimately it is the owner’s responsibility to find their pet a new home. We are very lucky to have a great shelter and be able to take in as many animals as we can, but sadly we only have so much space! We ask that you be patient when calling and leaving a message or requesting information. Feeding, walking and cleaning up after the animals is our #1 priority. If you have cruelty issues or concerns, please have the animal vetted if possible in an emergency, or call PCF for the cruelty agent’s information. If you find a lost dog or cat, please take the animal to a vet to check for a micro-chip first, then contact PCF, 3WZ, your local police station and Lyons Kennel to file a “found” report. We will also share Lost and Found postings on our page to help spread the word! If you have a legal issue with an animal, please call your local or state police. If you suspect abuse of an animal, please call your local police department as well. By law, an animal is required to have food, water and shelter. We wish we could do it all, but we need your help! Help us help them. If you would like to volunteer, please visit our website www.petscomefirst.net and fill out the volunteer form. To make a monetary donation, you can also visit the website. We are closed to the public except Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. Those are open cat hours only. People interested in dogs must do
an approved application and make an appointment. Supply donations can be dropped off in our shed behind the shelter any time between 8 am and 4:30 pm or left at the front or back door. Thank you all! ♥ ♥ ♥

Our cat colony department is actively looking for dependable and caring individuals to keep our litter boxes clean and our food bowls full. As you can see, the supervisors sometimes like to micromanage but sometimes we like to cut loose and you will find us kitten around! 😹Find out how you can be part of our colony by sending us a message or phone call. If we don't answer right away it's cause the residents are keeping us busy.

A Happy Tail is in for recently adopted Tessa, now Waffles! She loves her humans and her new best friend is a rabbit who was missing her previous doggie companion. How cute are these pictures?! 🥰

"Stevie (rabbit) established dominance quick (she thinks she’s a dog, she’s from a hoarding situation) and Waffles is respecting it. She kisses her and then Stevie lets her know when she’s done. Stevie’s happy to finally get kisses again. Her best friend died in May and she’s been trying so hard to make friends with all the dogs around and get kisses but they’re all much bigger than her so she’s been sad. Since bringing Waffles home, she’s been binkying more and zooming and so happy. Thank you guys so much for completing our family!"

Meet Sargent!

Sargent is a handsome 3 year old neutered male. He was recently returned to the shelter through no fault of his own, as the adopter had unexpected allergies, but after being here for 9 months he would really love to get back into a home.

This silly boy is fairly active and playful, but also enjoys getting some attention. In fact, he enjoys attention so much that he wants to be the only pet in the home so he can have it all to himself.

Interested in Sargent? Walk-in appointments are from 12-4 on Saturdays and Sundays. If you're an approved adopter you can also call 814-364-1725 to make an appointment during the week.

Poor Winnie can't catch a break. This sweet little baby just needs someone with patience and love. She's gaining more confidence everyday and being braver. It's not hard to get the shy babies out of their shells. Is there no one out there willing to give her the love she deserves?

Winnie - 4yr old, Female, Shih Tzu

Winnie is a very sweet, docile girl. She's still learning to warm up to people/affection (shes not aggressive about it, just shy and may run away) but shes getting better with this already! She must have another dog in the home and a fenced in yard is preferred. She's fine with cats too and kids should be 12+.
