SPCA of Fredericksburg The Fredericksburg SPCA is a life-saving, humane organization. The Fredericksburg SPCA is not a municipal shelter.

The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA is a non-profit, lifesaving humane organization dedicated to the principle that every life is unique and worthy of protection. As a local leader in humane care and education, the Fredericksburg SPCA's mission is to tackle the problem of pet overpopulation through education, adoption, rehabilitation, and spay/neuter. The organization saves the lives of many homeless

animals each year and cares for approximately 250 cats and dogs daily. We are not affiliated with any other animal welfare organization. We are an independent shelter that must raise 100% of our annual budget.

🐾 If you missed out on getting your Fur Ball Gala tickets, there are still so many ways you can help our animals right now. 🐾

We’re currently facing a wet food crisis at the shelter. Our supply is running dangerously low, and the demand has never been higher.

🚨 Several of our dogs are on wet food–only diets due to recent dental procedures, and many others need wet food mixed into their meals.
🐶 The Pet Pantry has already been depleted trying to keep up.
🐱At the same time, we’re caring for dozens of kittens (fed 3x a day!) and adult cats who also rely on wet food. Supplies are dwindling fast and even our Foster closet is nearly empty.

If you’re able to donate cans of wet dog or cat food, it would make a HUGE difference. Every can helps us nourish and care for the animals who need it most.

We can't keep up with their online profile photos, so we suggest stopping in from 12-6 pm to meet them! Sadly, we are also running low on cat carriers, so please bring yours with if you're planning to adopt. It's adopt one - get one - 50 % off since kittens do better in pairs.

From organizing volunteer days and donation drives to hosting a recent adoption event at their downtown Fredericksburg office, C&F Bank continues to champion our mission in the community.

Their recent $1,250 donation will go directly toward lifesaving medical care, essential supplies, and adoption support - helping more animals find the loving homes they deserve.

Meril: Bold. Beautiful. Built like a bean burrito.
Meril is large and thinks he’s in charge (he’s not in charge). He struts around with the swagger of someone who just invented walking, makes executive decisions like “we’re going this way now,” and then immediately forgets why.

He’s got the muscle of a linebacker, the attention span of a goldfish, and the charm of that one friend who always shows up late but somehow still gets invited everywhere (we're looking at you, Kyle).

Meril is ready to take up the role of bumbling bestie, but make no mistake, he is actually very smart and eager to please! He's been showing off with our Animal Care Leads during training and enrichment sessions, and knows the classics like sit, down, touch, and paw, and he’s not above showing off his skills if there’s a treat involved!

Thanks to the Fredericksburg Nationals for sponsoring Meril's adoption fee as a Most Valuable Pet (MVP)! Come and meet him from 12 - 6pm!

Volunteer S-PAW-tlight: Desiree J. 💙
When you picture the heart of the Fredericksburg SPCA, it looks a lot like our volunteers, and Desiree is one of those people who quietly keeps the whole place running. She’s been volunteering with us since July 2024, but in that time she’s become a VITAL part of the daily rhythm of the shelter.

Desiree starts her mornings tackling one of the most important behind-the-scenes jobs: laundry. Fresh bedding isn’t just about cleanliness; it means warm, soft comfort for every animal here.

Once the first load is in, she heads to the kitchen, where stacks of dishes from the animal condos are waiting. Each food and water dish gets scrubbed and sanitized after every meal (three times a day) so every cat and dog has a clean, safe place to eat and drink. Desiree even sets timers to remind herself when it’s time to switch over the laundry so not a single load gets missed before she leaves in the afternoon!

And she doesn’t stop there. On days when the staff is short-handed, Desiree jumps in to clean cat condos, replace blankets, and make sure every feline has a fresh, cozy space to relax. It’s not glamorous work - but it’s the kind of care that keeps our animals healthy, happy, and ready to meet their future families.

For Desiree, animals have always been part of life. She grew up surrounded by everything from tarantulas to turtles, but cats have always been her favorite. After losing her beloved 15-year-old cat, Ginger, in February, she found herself ready to love again. In March, she adopted a one-year-old cat named Shamrock (now Bailey), who had been transferred from another shelter. Bailey quickly settled in… and has completely taken over the house in classic cat fashion. 🐱

Desiree is proud of the work she does because she knows that every clean dish, every fresh blanket, and every extra set of hands makes a difference. Volunteering gives her a sense of purpose and the reward of seeing animals cared for, comfortable, and ready for adoption.

From laundry to love, Desiree does it all. Join us in thanking her for being such a vital part of the Fred SPCA family! 🐾🌷

✨Sir Squibble: Serenity Sunday✨
Welcome to Squibble’s School of Inner Peace where the mats are optional, the naps are mandatory, and the poses are… interpretive at best.

Today’s session: Whatever-this-is Pose. Some call it Warrior, some call it Downward Dog, others call it Downward Spiral. Squibble calls it “I’m chewing on my emotional support toy and minding my own business.”

As your resident four-legged yoga master, Sir Squibble would like to remind you that self-care comes in many forms. Maybe it’s yoga. Maybe it’s a long walk. Maybe it’s eating snacks in a weird position while lying on the vet scale because the floor just didn’t vibe with your aura today. No wrong answers here, and we don't judge.

Two things Squibble knows for sure:
1.) Everyone deserves a little “me time”, even if “me time” is just staring into the void for 15 minutes while pretending to meditate.
2.) The next time he says “Namaste,” he hopes it’s from his new home, with his new people, and a toy that hasn’t been de-fluffed yet.

Class is in session. BYO treats, and don't forget to stretch.
