Did you know that our friends at the Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery foster cats for FUR, as well as other rescue organizations? Our kitties love being able to go over there to enjoy freshly baked treats and toys while they wait to meet their adopters!

We can't believe our bonded siblings George and Sophia have been there for so long! They are enjoying being spoiled rotten by the staff at the bakery, but we know they really want to find a home of their own!

George and Sophia are around seven months old, and they love spending time together! They were abandoned after their family was evicted, and spent a terrifying night outdoors. Luckily, they were found in the road outside of their old home by a FUR volunteer, who rescued them. They are playful and friendly, and they charm all of their visitors! Drop by the Dog Bakery in downtown Waynesville, pick up some yummy gormet dog and cat treats, and meet George and Sophia!

Have you ever dreamed of having a sleek, mysterious panther, but zoning laws got in the way? Meet Ebony, the house-sized version with all of the beauty and none of the danger! With her glossy black coat and glowing eyes, Ebony is feline royalty!

Found abandoned in a cardboard box by a busy road, Ebony was rescued by a kind FUR volunteer. We don't know what her life was like before being rescued, but we know that she is ready for a brighter future.

Ebony is still learning to trust, so she will need a patient, loving adopter who understands that confidence takes time. She gains confidence around other friendly cats and would do best in a quieter home with a kitty friend.

Boots’ journey began as a pregnant stray, but her luck changed when a kind-hearted family found her and welcomed her into their home. They lovingly fostered Boots and her kittens until they were ready to come to FUR... and now, this gorgeous girl is ready for her forever family!

Boots is a total lovebug who thrives on human affection. She’s especially fond of our younger volunteers and lights up whenever they come to visit! While she prefers to be the only feline in the house, she’s perfectly happy sharing her space with dogs. Her stunning coat of black, orange, and white makes her just as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside.

Meet Bonita - Beauty, Bravery, and a Whole Lot of Sass! Bonita lives up to her name in every way! This stunning mama cat came to FUR in April with her five adorable kittens. She was fiercely protective at first - understandable, as she hadn't known much human kindness before a caring neighbor stepped in to help her and her babies find safety.

Now that her kittens are weaned and finding their adoptive families, Bonita is more than ready to find a home of her own! Bonita has blossomed into a lap-sitting, toy-chasing sweetheart at FUR. Her favorite game? Hide-and-seek with flutter toys! She'll even stash them in cat trees to enjoy later!

Bonita gets along with most cats at FUR, but can be selective, especially with male cats. She wouldn't mind being your one-and-only feline queen!

Our Story

As guardians of displaced felines, our mission is to provide a safe haven for cats, thereby reducing the homeless population, the shelter euthanasia rates, and filling a gap in the rescue community as a last resort sanctuary.

Many of our rescued cats recover and are re-adopted to loving families. Some, however, will live out their days with us at the Sanctuary.

FUR is managed and maintained by an almost exclusively volunteer staff. To continue to provide this valuable service in Haywood County, we need your help. We need families willing to adopt or foster cats, volunteers, donors, and folks willing to share our posts and help get the word out about FUR. A second chance truly starts with YOU.
