Dakari started as a rambunctious lab mix with zero impulse control, a desire to mouth everyone, and a knack for barking at every sound or sight at the window. Now she’s slowly learning to calm herself and focus on tasks at hand. She’s got motivation. We’ve got boundaries and rules. Putting them together will shape her into a phenomenal dog.

Welcome to the big show Axel! Axel has been displaying breed specific tendencies. Herding the kids. Nipping ankles. Pushy barking. And chasing cars. A little impulse control and curbing behaviors while also teaching proper communication should make for a much more stable household.

We are just a month away from arguably the best working dog conference around, ! Super stoked and honored to be teaching again alongside industry greats. Throughout my career, I’ve been able to do a lot of things, and being at this conference with real go getters, who seek to , solidifies why I do this. Shoutout to the training groups doing everything they can to make themselves better. After our seminar with Fort Carson, it was a long drive over to the western slope, on the other side of Colorado to work with Grand Valley Working Dog Group. A young but driven group of handlers geared towards all facets of working dogs. It was a true pleasure to work with these folks, some I had worked with before in a different capacity a few years ago. I enjoy those groups that do everything they can to set themselves (and their dogs) up for success. Well done guys and gals.

The Beauceron. It’s a breed becoming more and more popular; this guy, Atlas, being our client’s 3rd. We’ve had the fortune of working with them all over the last five years. Large herding breeds, they mature slowly but when they do, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Super excited to be included in this big pup’s journey.

That’s a wrap for our Leash Handling and Communication for Detection and Patrol Course. Incredibly proud of all of these handlers for their dedication to grow their skillset within this niche craft. Shoutouts specifically to Specialist Garrett Lans for earning the Top Dog Award for his exceptional prowess and growth during the course. Earning a MarathonK9 Challenge Coin, as well as a customized Rader K9 30ft leash provided by Veritas Kennels. Also note, this was Trainer Ian’s first time taking lead as a course instructor for us and he did phenomenally. With the stellar feedback we received, this course will be a mainstay. Morning brief for Day 3. Introduction to team CQB. Incorporating work from some of our other patrol related courses and pairing it with our Leash Management class. Trainer Ian’s () SWAT background is a key element here as he provides instruction on how to incorporate a dog into team movement work. Most of these soldiers have attended either our basic or advanced decoy and problem solving for patrol work courses so we are putting all elements together here.

Make the basics habitual. Standards should be second nature. Working on tactical lift-offs with auditory and visual exclusion under stress, ensuring that when handlers are presented with a scenario, they can calmly, yet quickly be capable of manually removing their dog from someone.
