🚨 Local Pet Health Alert 🚨
California is seeing a sharp rise in tick-borne illness anaplasmosis — and our pets are on the front lines. 🐶
🔎 What you need to know:
Spread by the western black-legged tick (same one that carries Lyme disease).
Dogs are most affected: symptoms can include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting, nosebleeds, or even seizures.
Cases in dogs have nearly tripled since 2021, with over half of California counties now high-risk (including Yolo, Placer, and El Dorado).
The illness is treatable with antibiotics — but early awareness makes a big difference.
✅ Protect your pet:
Use year-round flea & tick prevention.
Check your pet after walks in grassy/wooded areas.
Talk to your vet if you notice sudden changes in energy, appetite, or behavior.
👉 Staying proactive helps keep both pets and humans safe.
