Don’t Ignore Lumps or Bumps – Especially on the Feet

If you notice a new lump, swelling, or bump on your pet — particularly on their paws — it’s important to have it checked right away.

Even small growths matter — paws are sensitive, and changes here can progress quickly. The earlier we can evaluate, the more treatment options we have.

If you find something unusual, give us a call so we can help keep your pet healthy, active, and comfortable.

It’s Cheatgrass Season – Protect Your Pets!

Cheatgrass (also called grass awns) is in full swing this time of year, and it can cause serious problems for dogs — especially those with longer hair on their feet, legs, or ears.

These sharp seeds can work their way into skin, ears, noses, and even eyes, leading to infections and other complications.

What to do:

Check your dog’s feet, between the toes, and around the paw pads daily.

Look inside and around the ears, especially after walks or outdoor play.

Gently brush and inspect their coat to catch any hitchhiking seeds before they embed.

If you find redness, swelling, limping, head shaking, or persistent licking, call us right away.

We're here for you, and we love your pets! 406-446-3738

Our Team is Growing—with Heart
We’ve been honored to welcome so many new clients recently, and with that growth, our team is expanding too. From new staff to ongoing training and support, we’re building on the same foundation we always have: personalized, thoughtful care for every patient and every family.

At Beartooth Animal Hospital, we’re more than just a clinic—we’re a team that values compassion, community, and balance. We’re proud to be a family-friendly workplace, and we support each other in every role, both at work and at home.

Thank you for being part of our story. We’re grateful to walk alongside you in caring for the animals you love.

Behavior Changes? Let’s Talk.
We’ve seen a recent rise in dogs showing signs of aggression—sometimes on walks, sometimes at home. Behavior changes often signal pain, fear, or confusion. Before you blame bad behavior, let’s rule out medical causes. A physical exam is the first step, and we can talk through safe, compassionate ways to help your dog feel better and behave better. Stay safe out there—especially on the trails near Red Lodge.

The 4th of July is just around the corner, and that means fireworks—and anxiety—for many pets. Now is the time to prepare. We can help with calming strategies, supplements, and prescription medications if needed. Don’t wait until the first boom—schedule a visit so we can build a plan that keeps your companion safe and calm.

Trail Dogs & Montana Summer
Montana is putting on a show—blue skies, warm sun, and trails begging to be explored. Your dogs are loving it too! If your pup is hiking, swimming, or roaming the outdoors with you, make sure they’re up to date on vaccines and protected from ticks and parasites. Bring water, take breaks, and watch those paws on hot rocks or pavement. Here’s to a happy, healthy trail season!

Surgery Day Reminder
We know how much you care about your pets—and we’re so grateful to be part of their care team. If your pet has a scheduled surgery, please remember to withhold food and water for at least 12 hours before the appointment. This is a very important step to help keep them safe during anesthesia. We’ve had a few missed fasts lately and know it’s easy to forget, especially with busy mornings. If you ever have questions about prep instructions, just give us a call—we’re happy to walk you through it. Thank you for helping us provide the safest care possible.

In Loving Memory of Murphy
Our clinic family is grieving the sudden loss of our beloved clinic dog, Murphy, who was tragically hit by a car last Friday. Murphy was more than a pet—he was our greeter, our comforter, and a joyful presence for every client who walked through our doors. He belonged to Dr. John and Sue Beug and carried forward their kindness in the way only a beautiful Collie could. We know many of you have experienced the same heartbreak, and we ache alongside you. The bond we share with our animals is deep and real—and so is the grief when they’re gone.
