Hello customers. With the deer season right around the corner, here is my yearly post regarding properly caring for your deer after harvest. It begins with the hunter and not the taxidermist 🦌🦌

1) After harvest, please get your deer caped ASAP and to me. If you can’t, wrap it a heavy duty garbage bag, only allowing the antlers exposed and refrigerate or freeze. (Please see pic below) If your deer is at a butcher, stress to them that you would like it caped sooner than later. Please remember , Early season harvests in warmer weather need immediate care.

2) Do Not Rinse with water!! Moisture attracts bacteria, which causes slippage or the hair to fall out. This will be $250-$350 additional cost to the customer for an additional cape.

3) Out of state harvest. By law, the deer needs to be caped and skulled out prior to being delivered to me. I will NOT accept any out of state deer unless they have been properly caped and skulled out All the above care needs to also take place as well.

4) All deer need to be tagged and your harvest reported. Again, required by NYSDEC Law.

5) If you plan on caping your deer yourself, please follow the steps in the pics below or check out the YouTube link provided.

***Attention Deer Hunters***

At this point I’m done taking in deer heads. I’ll only be taking heads in for returning customers at this point.

If you have reserved a spot already, you are still good to drop them off.

Thank you for your understanding. 🦌🦌

Good luck to all the hunters on the opening of southern zone gun season tomorrow. Treestand hunters, wear your safety harness!!!

If you looking to have your trophy mounted, there are a limited number of spots, so please contact as soon as possible.

Also, please remember, field care is very important. Please have your deer caped out as soon as possible so I can get it skinned and in the freezer.

If you have any questions about proper caping, I have provided several pics on the proper cuts. If you have any additional questions , please feel free to contact me.

Good luck!!! 🦌🦌🦌

Proper caping, results in a better mount and no extra cost for the customer due to sewing or even a replacement cape. Stay away from the brisket.

Here some pics of the cape from the buck I shot yesterday and the proper steps. 🦌🦌

*****ATTENTION Hunters*****

Please note the following dates that I will not be able to take in any deer heads or waterfowl due to not being home or my full time job work obligations.

10/11 - 10/25
11/2 - 11/10

If you are successful harvesting a deer, please have it properly caped, double wrapped, only exposing the antlers and freeze immediately. No ears or hair should be exposed.

For waterfowl, wrap the head and feet in a damp paper towel, double wrap and freeze. Also, please check your bird for any pin feathers immediately after harvesting by gently back brushing the feathers with your hand. If you see any small white feather quills, your bird is most likely unmountable. Please see the pictures.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you and good luck. 🦌🦆🦃
