Happy Senior Sunday: For Mary, and for all the people who open their home to a senior dog-
This week, we remember sweet Mary. In December, we saw her photo: unable to walk, left at a church, facing euthanasia at 13 years old, in a shelter alone. We got her out by Christmas. And she walked out of that shelter on her own.
She came to us with more diagnoses than we could count—kidney disease, pancreatitis, UTI, dementia, arthritis from a long-healed broken hip, and glaucoma. But she also came with an unstoppable spirit.
Mary wanted nothing more than to belong. And she did. She became part of a pack of 4 pups and had a family who loved her.
She camped at the coast multiple times, road-tripped to Montana, and soaked up every moment of her second chance. Her body grew tired, but her heart never stopped getting up each day with her pack for as long as she was able.
Mary crossed the rainbow bridge on July 22, 2025, surrounded by the love she fought so hard to find.
To every hospice foster who says yes when it’s the hardest, you are heroes.
This is what rescue means.
