A Message from the Heart…
We've seen a few FB comments suggesting that all we do is ask for money. We want to take a moment to speak honestly. We understand - it's not easy to be reminded of suffering. But the truth is, caring for neglected animals takes resources, and we ask because we must - for them. We must ask because the animals who come to us are often in crisis, with no one else to care for them. They arrived starving, sick, abandoned... and we do everything we can to provide comfort, relief and dignity - no matter how long or short their time with us may be.

Last week a severely starved pony mare and goat were picked up wandering on a road in Aiken. She is in critical condition. Her body condition score is 1, (the lowest possible) and she is battley a severe respiratory infection in addition to the malnutrition. She is missing 5 teeth, no frogs in her feet and there are concerns she may also have an old injury or possibly cancer in her re**al area. We do believe the antibiotics are starting to help. She is trying to eat. Despite everything, her goat "Biscuit" has not left her side. Their bond speaks volumes. Both are being surrounded by kindness, perhaps for the first time in a very long time.

We have a second vet check scheduled. That check will help us better understand her condition and what options may be ahead.

Sometimes, the most compassionate act we can offer a suffering animal is the hardest one to make. While we are still hoping for the best, we are preparing our hearts for what may be the kindest and most peaceful act. But for now, she has some relief. She has love. And she has Biscuit.

We want to be fully transparent. We are not an organization with big pockets nor big sponsors. We are a rescue built on compassion, community and the belief that animal lives do matter. We do not receive city, county, state or federal funding. What keeps this Rescue going - what allows us to step in at moments like this - is you.

We are proud to have earned the 2025 Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, and even prouder of the community who makes this work possible.

If you are moved by out mission, please consider donating. You are not just helping Biscuit and his pony, you are helping every single soul we'll meet tomorrow, and the day after. As you can see by the photos, we work hard to turn lives around for a second chance.
All made possible because of donations https://aikenequine rescue.org/donate-now

If you'd like to step in as a sponsor, we'd love to hear from you at [email protected].

To those of you who have supported us with kind words, time, or gifts of any size - THANK YOU! You are a part of something special. Your compassion is what allows us to say yes when others say "there's nothing we can do". Or worse yet... they look the other way.

TODAY AIKEN COUNTY CODE ENFORCEMENT picked up a heartbreaking site – a severely starved, mare and her goat companion wandering down Briar Patch Road.

They are safe now at the Equine Rescue and receiving immediate care, but we need to find the owner.

If you recognize this mare or the goat, please come forward. You can message us privately or contact Aiken County directly.

Kudos to Aiken County for acting swiftly.

Meet Tilley! She came to us almost two years ago when Richmond Animal Control seized four horses. These are ger before and after photos

The owner refused to surrender them to us … until now! It took months in a refeeding program. But finally she is surrendered.

Rescue is frustrating. When you see an animal treated like this…how could anyone do this.

Miracles are slow to happen, but they do. So thank you to all our supporters whose compassion helps us achieve what seems impossible.

From Starvation to Strength.
Meet “Echo”, one of the Edgefield County 9 neglect cases. Seized by Animal Control, at 20 years old, he had a body score of 2.

We will never forget the way he looked at us that first day – tired, shut down, and barely holding on.
Even in his fragile state, Echo was sweet. Gentle. Trusting.

It took months and months of intensive care, vet visits, special feed, and a lot of money to help Echo regain his strength. Today, Echo is healthy and happy. Check out these transformation photos !

His transformation is only due to the kindness of donors, our volunteers who make all the difference in the world and a whole lot of prayers These before and after photos say it all. Your support helps us say yes to horses like Echo.
Thank tou for your support

In 2022, nine severely neglected horses were seized by Animal Control in Edgefield County and placed in our care. We dubbed them the “Edgefield Nine”. They arrive, starved, broken, and in critical need as you can see from the pictures below. Despite their condition, their owner refused to surrender them– until now.

For almost 3 years, these horses have lived at Aiken Equine Rescue while we carried the full financial burden of the recovery - more than $200,000 in feed surgeries and vet care.

Today, we can finally share the news. We’ve waited so long to say. :
THE EDGEFIELD NINE are officially ours.
Restitution to the Rescue $3000 BUT
We’re happy to say that they are safe. They have healed and now they’re free to begin new lives.

To everyone who supported these horses -this moment is yours, too. Please consider donating so we can continue saying yes to the next horse like the Edgefield nine.
