🎶 GameTime Tulsa Shuffle! 🎶
On Monday, we’re pulling off a move so smooth, it would make any Tulsa-based band proud.

Dr. Mitch and Dr. Maria are swapping spots. Think of it as our version of the Tulsa Shuffle: laid-back, perfectly timed, and totally in rhythm. If you haven’t met Dr. Mitch, stop in and give him a howdy.

👉 Not familiar with the Tulsa Shuffle? Give this a listen:
“Call Me the Breeze” by J.J. Cale has that easy groove we’re aiming for.

Big thanks to Harper for spending another summer with us before heading into her third year of vet school at the University of Illinois! 🐴🎓

We’ve loved having her back! She brings great energy, a big heart, and a serious love for horses to everything she does. Can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in the year ahead.

Good luck, Harper! 💙

The horses are the heart of it. 🐎
SVEC is proud to sponsor the 2025 Midland County Fair, where horsepower takes center stage.

Whether it’s the speed and precision of Harness Racing on Friday and Saturday or the grit and adrenaline of the Super Kicker Rodeo on Monday and Tuesday, we love seeing these incredible athletes—horse and human—do what they do best.

We’ll be cheering from the stands and behind the scenes. See you at the fairgrounds!

🎆 Big News for Kelsey 🎆

We’ve loved having Kelsey back with us this summer as a veterinary assistant. She’s been a huge help around the clinic and out in the field, always ready to jump in and learn something new. 🐴💙

Some of you might remember Kelsey from 2023, when she worked here as a veterinary assistant before getting accepted into Michigan State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She’s heading into her second year of vet school and just received the One Health Veterinary Scholarship, which will support her for the next three years!

We’re so proud of everything Kelsey is working toward. She’s got a bright future ahead, and she’ll always be part of the SVEC family. 💪🐾💚

🌟 Meet Olivia! 🌟

We’ve had the pleasure of having Olivia from the University of Cincinnati this month as part of her journey to becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician. From July 7 to August 1, Olivia jumped in with our team, taking on everything from daily appointments to long-distance farm calls.

Here’s what Olivia had to say about her time with us at SVEC:

✅ “Everyone was so accommodating, I felt like I could ask anyone for anything and they’d do their best to help.”

🏡 “Staying on site was great! I felt comfortable and loved being close enough to help with after-hours emergencies.”

💬 “I learned so much and really grew as a technician. I especially enjoyed getting a glimpse into the world of sports medicine!”

We’re grateful for Olivia’s positive energy, dedication, and eagerness to learn. Wishing her the very best as she continues her LVT journey! 💙🐴

From Pony Rides to Grand Champions

Some of our SVEC clients started their journey in the 4-H barns of the Saginaw County Fair and the Bay County Fair, and we couldn’t be prouder to support them today.

We’re honored to sponsor these incredible local fairs where hard work, horsemanship, and community spirit shine bright. This year, the Bay County Fair celebrates 160 years of tradition, agriculture, and youth development!

Whether you’re showing, volunteering, or just there for the elephant ears, we hope to see you at:

🐴⚠️ Potomac Horse Fever Alert in the Great Lakes Bay Region

Cases of Potomac Horse Fever (PHF) are starting to appear in our area. This seasonal disease is caused by a type of bacteria (Neorickettsia risticii) and spreads most often during warm summer months. Horses of all ages can be affected, and early treatment is essential.

🩺 Watch for these clinical signs:
• Fever, depression, and decreased appetite
• Mild colic or laminitis in some cases
• Watery diarrhea within 24–48 hours
• Severe GI signs like abdominal distension or colic in some horses
• Abortions can occur weeks after infection

⚠️ If your horse goes off feed, check their temperature right away. A fever combined with appetite loss could be an early warning sign of PHF. Call us immediately — early treatment is critical.

⛔ Mortality Rates:
Untreated horses can have a mortality rate of 17–36%, but early veterinary care greatly improves survival.

📍 Horses near ponds, rivers, or other water sources may be at increased risk.

💉 What our doctors recommend:
We advise annual vaccination during summer (ideally June or July), when the risk is highest. The vaccine provides about three months of protection — enough to help cover the most active season.

Call us right away if your horse shows any signs. Prompt care can make all the difference.

🌟🐴 Big News from SVEC! 🐴🌟

We’re incredibly proud of Dr. Scott Nebergall, one of our own, who is judging the Heavy Draft Horse classes, including the stunning Belgian “Belga” division, at AGROEXPO in Bogotá, Colombia, July 9–20, 2025!

🏆 International Expert right in our backyard

Scott isn’t just a judge, he’s a true horseman who’s walked the walk with “Dream” (AgRestore’s Diamond’s Dream):
• Stayed undefeated in class through 2021
• Crowned Grand Champion Stallion at the 2024 North American Belgian Championship
• Made a triumphant comeback after a three-year break, all thanks to Scott and “Team Dream”

Whether he’s leading advanced surgical procedures, overseeing complex reproduction cases, or diagnosing internal medicine challenges, Dr. Scott brings expertise and genuine compassion to every patient at SVEC. His excellence in the clinic and deep respect for each horse’s well-being make him the perfect ambassador for our team, whether here at home or judging abroad.
