Last show for the Horse Park winter series! And it was a cold one!!
Both girls rode great and improved their scores by 5%(or more!) since riding under this judge in January

Thanks to Eileen Aeon Dressage for helping us warm up and get inside Sporty’s head a bit

Here’s to hoping the rest of the season is a bit warmer!

Welcome Walter!!
(His name is everything and I can’t take credit for it 😍)

Walter is a 14 year old mustang gelding, I was able to decode his brand and get some information directly from the BLM! He’s from Antelope Valley Nevada, he was captured in 2011 and wasn’t titled until 2020. What he did between those years is a mystery but for the last year he’s been at a farm in PA getting a good education. He needs some time to settle in and get a little bit more training before he’s used for lessons but he seems like he’ll be a fast learner.
He’s very lovable and will appreciate all the hugs kisses and cookies you can give him!

Looking for volunteers who would like to help me exercise Layla!
Layla needs 15-20 minutes of hand walking with a few simple exercises thrown in to help strengthen her core muscles and help with her back pain. She’s doing great but the time commitment is a struggle for me!
I will gladly show anyone interested what she needs done, plus you get a little extra exercise in yourself 😜

Did you know our mustangs are considered ponies? Any horse under 14.2 hands is a pony!
You’re never too old to ride a pony 😉

Smaller equines are upping the fun for many adult dressage riders - and they’re holding their own against the big guys in the show ring. In this reprint from USDF Connection magazine, read why ponies are gaining more popularity: https://yourdressage.org/2024/03/07/ponies-not-just-for-kids-any-more/

Alright there’s no easy way to say this so, Odin will be leaving this upcoming weekend to go on trial at a new home.

This pony has become a favorite among many of my students so I know this will be a hard one. When I tell you we found the absolute perfect home for him I’m not exaggerating. He will be going to live with Heather in hopes that he will click with her daughter and become her new show partner. Heather is at our farm once a month for body work and saddle fitting so I’ve gotten to know her very well and have peace of mind that he’s going to be even more spoiled than he has been here.

I wanted to put this out there now before this week’s lessons start up so everyone has a chance to give him some extra loving while you’re here.

He came to us a scared nervous pony that didn’t appreciate affection and had no clue what treats were. We got him out of the auction pipeline and showed him not all people are bad. He helped many of you build confidence and while it’s ok to be sad to say goodbye it’s important to be thankful as well.

Delilah
Day 19
I haven’t been updating often because this one is literally one step forward 3 steps back. She’s been difficult but I’m still enjoying the process. At this point I can touch her with one hand on her back end up to the top of her neck and a little down her front leg. With two hands just her wither shoulder and neck. She has a timer, if I’m in with her for more than 10 minutes she reverts back to day 1 not letting me approach her. And each session we have to start slow with using a stick and string before I can touch her with my hands. Originally she would only let me on her right side I spent a few days working on getting on her left and then she wouldn’t let me on the right. It’s frustrating but she has soo much personality which I love, I think she’s going to turn out to be a cool little horse.
I’ve been doing some research and we’re going to experiment with her diet some to see if she’s lacking anywhere that may cause her flighty behavior.
For now we’ll keep celebrating her little victories

Volunteering opportunity for our students to get a little bit of extra barn time! Chores are still being decided but the trailer definitely needs a good cleaning inside and out.

There’s a new girl in town!

Meet tag 8756, she has a name already but it won’t be announced until after her tag is removed

She is a fun one for anyone who loves color genetics! She is listed as roan on her paperwork and has some white hairs mixed in throughout her body, has a small belly spot and tiny spot of white on her neck. All of that on top of carrying the curly gene! She’ll be fun to watch shed out and see what she ends up looking like come summer.
She’s a 4 year old from the Pancake HMA in Nevada and was captured in 2022.

Big thank you to the Double Devil Wild Horse Corrals for helping get her here from California and to Stacy at Gentled Hearts Stables for making pick up so easy!

First show of 2024 ✅

All 3 of our riders had their first ever walk-trot-canter test. We started off the morning strong with Beth and Brody. Earning mid 60’s scores on both of their test! Very proud of this duo and the judge loved Mr Brody but who doesn’t? ♥️

In the afternoon the girls had a bit of a struggle. Nova had a few moments where she decided she was done and just didn’t want to move forward. Sporty had the opposite problem and was moving forward too much! Both Jenna and Madison kept positive attitudes and have the whole season to improve! Jenna did end up with nice scores despite Nova’s stubborn streak. Sporty’s dislike of indoors and the lack of consistent work was against them today. Winter showing is tuff between the weather and short days it’s hard to get enough practice time in but it’s a nice way to see what you need to work on before the spring season rolls in.

Nova said she would cooperate for a few photos but refuses to look happy while doing so 🤣

We survived two snow storms in the same week and will be getting warmer temperatures next week. Due to the amount of melting snow and the rain that we are expecting it still may be a while before we can ride here again. I will be in contact soon regarding lessons for the upcoming week!
