GINGER'S STORY

Ginger Spice, a 10-year-old cocker spaniel mix, came to Peppertree when her elderly owner could no longer care for her. From the very start, Ginger was all kisses and smiles. Her soft, fluffy coat matched her gentle spirit, and she reminded us of the sweet grandma who smells like lavender and keeps butterscotch candies in her purse.

But like many senior dogs, Ginger arrived with a significant medical to-do list. She was diagnosed with a heart murmur, dental disease, a bacterial skin infection, persistent eye problems, and underwent surgery to remove a growth on her eye. Her amazing foster mom showered her with lots of TLC and Peppertree was able to provide the care she desperately needed, totaling $3,320 in veterinary bills.

Despite everything she endured, Ginger never lost her spark. She was gentle with children, tolerant of other pets, and always greeted her foster mom with joyful tail wags. Her calm energy made her the perfect companion for a quiet, loving home.

And that's exactly what she found. Ginger's forever family fell in love the moment they met her. Today, she enjoys prancing in her new backyard, soaking up belly rubs, and making her signature happy snorts when her ears are scratched.

Prince is a young chihuahua who's convinced your lap is prime real estate. He's affectionate, enjoys being close, and appreciates a home where people are around more often than not.

This pup is good on walks, does well in the car, and is housebroken with a consistent routine. He's lived with a child before and enjoys other dogs— so bonus points for a canine companion. Cats are an unknown.

SNOW WHITE'S STORY

Snow White, a joyful young dog, came to Peppertree after being surrendered to an Alabama shelter - with instructions to have her euthanized. It's hard to believe that anyone could give up on this friendly, affectionate girl, but thankfully, her story was far from over.

Though sweet as can be, Snow White arrived with her own medical saga. A stubborn UTI caused bloody urination and persistent incontinence. Tests revealed several bladder stones that required surgery. She also had coccidia causing diarrhea, chronic infections in both ears, and a walnut-sized lump on her back that needed removal (thankfully it was benign). In total, her medical bills tallied up to $3,705.

Today, Snow White is a cherished family member who is now called Betty Lew. She gives kisses freely, soaks up her "Betty Beauty Time" like a true girly girl, and enjoys walks and playtime with her dog cousins. She's fully recovered and loving life, thanks to people who believed she deserved her fairytale ending.

Say hello to Noodle the Doodle and his leading-man good looks. Five-year-old Noodle gets along well with people, kids, and other dogs. He's silly, smart, knows sit and shake, enjoys daily walks, and settles easily at home.

Noodle is house trained, not a fan of crates, and has impeccable manners aside from the occasional self-serve snack. He had a sheltered start, so new people and situations can take him a moment - but he adjusts quickly and appreciates patience. He wants to trust and belong.

Edith is a funny, athletic, and smart people pleaser who brings enthusiasm to everything. This adorable four-year-old pit bull mix appreciates activity, structure, and being part of a team.

Edith's hobbies include power walks, power naps, treat-driven training, and chewing durable toys. She'll thrive in a home with humans who can handle a strong, curious 40-pound dog. Another energetic confident pup is fine; going solo is fine too. Edith also needs a home free of cats and other small animals.

Patch and Ellie are 12-year-old best friends who've been side-by-side since day one. They still enjoy slow strolls, backyard scouting missions, and curling up in blankets.

Patch is the easygoing social guy, and Ellie is the quiet, steady one who loves routine. They're cat friendly, house trained, polite, and completely devoted to each other. They would like a quiet home where they can stay together and keep being the team they've always been.

United by a shared goal to save 55 dogs from a heartbreaking cruelty case in Saratoga County last summer, Peppertree proudly joined the local rescue community in an extraordinary show of teamwork and compassion. Rescuing 54 golden retrievers and one chihuahua required an all-hands-on-deck effort from the Saratoga County Animal Shelter and partner rescues across the region.

The scene that greeted rescuers when they arrived at the shelter was grim: underweight dogs - many nursing puppies - caked in f***s, urine, and filth. The stench was overwhelming, and some were so encrusted with f***s that shelter staff initially mistook them for Dalmatians.

Peppertree volunteers jumped in, spending over 45 hours grooming 19 terrified dogs, working side-by-side with Saratoga County Animal Shelter and Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist (H.O.P.E.). All dogs had to be shaved and several required sedation because they were too frightened to be handled. Yet even in those first hours, volunteers saw glimmers of hope - a hesitant tail wag or a gentle nuzzle - that reminded them how resilient dogs can be.

With the shelter already at capacity, Peppertree contacted fellow golden retriever rescues to find placements across the northeast. In all, 38 goldens were transferred to Second Chance Animal Services, Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR), and Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue. Six others joined Peppertree foster homes to begin the slow process of recovery. HOPE, Catskill Canine, and Rottie Mountain Rescue opened their doors to the remaining dogs.

Peppertree welcomed six wonderful goldens ranging in age from six months to five years: Frito, Marlin, Dory, Schooner Skye, Rory Reilly and Jessica Jane. Five are thriving and were adopted and have blossomed with loving families. We were devastated to unexpectedly lose Rory Reilly, a lovely boy, last week. We share his story as well as those of the other five dogs here.

Meet Dani, a senior Lhasa Apso who loves head rubs, soft blankets and morning stretches. She's also house trained, polite, and has mastered the art of slow living.

Dani still moves with a little spring in her step and happily runs to greet her foster mom when she gets home. She coexists with the resident dogs in her foster home but would prefer a quieter home where her human is often around. Kids should be older because, at age 13, Dani is all about low-volume living. Cats are an unknown.

If your heart and home have room for 12 pounds of sweetness, Dani would love to meet you.
