🩺🐾 A torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) is the most common causes of hind leg lameness and knee pain in dogs. Similar to the ACL in humans, the CCL helps stabilize the knee joint. When this ligament becomes torn or damaged, the knee becomes unstable, leading to pain, limping, difficulty standing, and the development of arthritis over time.
At South Paws Veterinary Surgical Specialists, we offer advanced TPLO surgery (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) to help restore comfort, mobility, and quality of life for dogs with CCL injuries. During a TPLO procedure, the angle of the tibia is carefully adjusted to stabilize the knee joint and reduce abnormal movement. 🦴A specialized metal plate is then placed to support healing and long-term function.
Recovery after TPLO surgery includes pain management, restricted activity, and post-operative rehabilitation to help your dog heal safely and return to normal activity as quickly as possible.
🐾If your dog is limping, avoiding activity, or showing signs of knee pain, early diagnosis and treatment are important. Contact South Paws Veterinary Surgical Specialists to schedule a consultation with our board-certified veterinary surgeon and learn more about TPLO surgery and CCL treatment options for dogs.
