Foxy Brown is at the vet today getting spayed. This sweet girl, who we are guessing is probably around 10 years old or older, was found as a stray a month ago.
She is a gentle reminder of the importance of REGISTERING YOUR MICROCHIP.
When Foxy Brown first came into rescue we were thrilled that she was microchipped. That happiness quickly turned to sadness when the microchip company informed us that her chip hadn't been registered. With their help we were able to find out which Veterinary Clinic microchipped her. They were in Missouri, which was sad thinking that somebody had an updated her chip with such a long move.
Sadly the new owner of the clinic did not have access to any of the old records and once we located the original veterinarian he had not kept them either, especially for chips that he sold to breeders, (his words, not ours). We don't know if Foxy Brown was a breeder or from a breeders litter but either way her Missouri microchip was never registered and last week the microchip company cleared her registration and now her chip is registered to us. Today besides being spayed she had all her vaccines microchip and full blood work to make sure she is as healthy as can be. Our vet believes she may be anywhere between 6 and 10 years old.
we are starting the fun of finding her a good forever home. This girl needs a good quality fence and definitely someone who understands or is willing to learn about the breed. Foxy has been very calm and fits in well with most dogs. She would do best with a male dog her size or larger. Even cats have been okay with her in her foster home. Considering that we think she's a senior, she is still very alert and active and would make a great hiking companion. She hasn't had much training on a leash and is definitely focused on exploring. We think that is probably part of the reason why she was found as a stray. She does have this world famous Shiba scream. LOL
Shiba's overall are generally not for the first time or inexperienced dog owner. They tend to remind people more of cats than they do dogs. They are very devoted to their people, but they can also appear aloof and indifferent at times and especially with strangers. They are not super cuddlers and make great alert dogs. They also tend to be very clean dogs, again a cat kind of trait.
Foxy will officially go up on the Petfinder website today and we are hoping to find her a good quality home in the very near future. This girl deserves only good things. If you know someone who is interested in adopting a wonderful older dog who has finished up all her vet care and is healthy with a good heart and ready to become your friend, send them our way.
