Focused and connected 🐴✨ Nothing better than finding that quiet moment of partnership in the saddle

𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙡𝙮 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙞𝙥: At our most recent vet appointment, Fox got the okay to continue his progress forward under saddle, and my radar is up for any signs of My-Horse-itis creeping in! We all love our horses and often fall into patterns like overthinking every little behavior, buying gear we don’t actually need, or hesitating to ask our horses for just a little more effort. All of these things come from a place of caring, but over time, they can quietly get in the way of progress and connection.

One of the simplest ways to stay on track is to bring in outside eyes every so often. Having a trusted trainer, friend, or peer watch a session can reveal little things you might not notice yourself—whether it’s a habit in your body, a cue you’re giving without realizing it, or a spot where you could confidently ask your horse for more. Even small adjustments can make a big difference in how you and your horse work together. 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙨.

We just had Dan James Double Dan Horsemanship at the farm this past weekend, and it was great to have his eye on the work I've been doing, as well as pick his brain about things to work on going forward. My students and I can't wait to have the same opportunity with Lauren Sprieser, Alizée Froment, Tik Maynard, and Tamie Smith later this year!

Inspiration all around! From absolute beginner to advanced participants, every person left this clinic feeling excited about the new things they learned. Horses had a clearer understanding of their relationship with their handlers, and came away with newfound use of their bodies as well as better emotional regulation.

Huge shout out to Dan James of for his clear explanations and careful demonstrations of everything over the last three days…. and for his sense of humor! It’s always such a blast to have him in town!

Fox is back to work, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all the time Fox and I spent learning about each other from the ground while his movement was limited to walking. Those quiet, simple moments on the ground — focusing on connection, relaxation, and responsiveness — are paying off in a big way now that I’m back in the saddle.

This week's 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙞𝙥 is brought to you as I am reminded of the blog post from the beginning of Fox's rehab, where I talk about why grounding exercises are so powerful. What has me grinning from ear to ear you ask?! Getting to trot my horse again!

Fox's recovery is going very well. We are going slow and steady, following veterinary protocol, building his strength back up and watching his soundness carefully. Just a couple more weeks until a follow-up ultrasound so we can see if we can add canter back into our repertoire!

He feels amazing! All of the time we have spent together on the ground has made a huge difference to the riding work. Our relationship is so strong and the communication is so clear. I just adore this horse! ❤️
