Bluebonnet has assigned over 65 horses to Training Challenge applicants and have been able to take in horses from two different rescues and from a couple of donors we might not have been able to help. So that's helping more horses and plenty of horses for you to follow on Facebook and meet at the Expo!

The stressful news is that we only have one sponsor so far (a big thank you to Mary and Texas Ranch Specialist for being our first sponsor!). and only one vendor so far (thank you Linda and KIS Accessories for being our first vendor!).

It Bluebonnet's 20th year of operations, and that's a huge thing! I want to celebrate that with an amazing Expo. I really love the Expo – not only are we raising money for a good cause, but there are so many educational opportunities, so much shopping, and gorgeous horses to meet. Plus we get to see friends we haven't seen in a year or more and make new ones.. It really is an amazing day, and I hope you can help us make it the best one yet.

So how can you help the horses (and as a side-benefit also help stop my panic attack)?

The easiest thing you can do is help us spread the word. more people who attend, the better the event we’ll have. And helping like this is free – and anyone can do it, you don’t have to be in Texas!

We also need both sponsors and donors. Sponsors help cover the cost of putting on the event so that all money raised during the event can go to helping horses, and donations are used to help care for the horses need us. You can learn more about both sponsorship and donations at [https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors/](https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNk45U0xQNU9kYldpSTczdwEe_S8b5OSdn4JFdxZOeAMd3IOLEamE-DUAIO82okgCLK2zLw-j5O2BMeXzOMc_aem_6wmmx_yDT9QtyNwb0UYcUg). Sponsors and donors don't need to be in Texas, either, so if you can't sponsor or donate - spread the word. You never know who you might reach.

We also need vendors. Vendors are in the climate controlled vendor hall right past the entrance: we try to funnel every attendee through the vendor hall so they’ll see your products and/or services. Vendor spaces are 10x10 and are just $75. You can learn more at [https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/vendors/](https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/vendors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNk45U0xQNU9kYldpSTczdwEeFTgHXoE7Jp8ieOEo8YgLdieRuRgbY_w5zisMeJ6843gyrETNOZ2O_LzFMOg_aem_nbSMXNf2T2o00ln_aDUKXQ)

If you have any questions about sponsoring, donating, being a vendor, or helping out with the Expo in another way, please just let me know. I would love to have you (yes, you!) become part of the Expo community.

Learning more about Flynn

Here are some get to know you Q & A that one of the amazing coordinators at Bluebonnet sent out.

1. Who does your challenge horse hang out with? - Flynn has a 12×12 stall overnight with an attached 12×20 run for overnights/feedings. He goes out solo during the day. He has friends (2 retired mares) that he shares a fenceline with. Previously, Flynn had 2 mini donkeys he was turned out with.

2. Who have they been introduced to? Ducks, chickens, dogs, pigs, etc? - Flynn has a pretty boring life here with me as I only moved to this place a year ago so I haven't really started on the farm animals yet but I plan to have playdates with my neighbors horse and then once we get trailering solved we can go explore more

3. Who does your horse prefer not to chill out with? - So far, Flynn is game to chill with anyone. My personal horse, though, is not overly fond of him. I take full blame for that. My horse suffers from being an "only child," so he's not used to sharing my attention for long or me working with another horse 😅

4. Where does your challenge horse hang out when not working with you? Pasture, stall, pasture during the day but stalled at night, etc? - Flynn loves going out to the field. He hangs out by the Shared fence line for a bit and then decides that the retired girls aren't exciting enough, so he goes and explores the back of the property that has trails by himself. He has shocked himself a few times, either a deer or some other wildlife & he had to run back up to the barn for his preverbial safety net

Here is Flynn with his introduction to a cowboy curtain of sorts (DIY attempt 😅😂) he snorted at it. We walked around then I could lead him through it! I was very impressed with his minimal reaction to it! Next step will be to be fully set up and then add bottles to it!!

Flynn is quite a character, and because he has been through this challenge process more than once, I've got multiple people to ask questions in regards to his behavior.
A few of them have been following along again to see what changes happen this time. I am happy to discuss anything I've been told or experienced myself regarding this spooky behavior or what he does when you hit his threshold.
He is NOT a beginner horse. I can not stress this enough. He is generally pretty chill and had previously been returned to Bluebonnet because he's not quite ready to be a beginner horse. As a confident amateur myself, I think I can handle him, and so far, I have, but I've only sat on him a few times and done some walk trot work on a lunge line. I'm trying to rebuild from the ground up so that I can have my own picture of what he's like under saddle. I have a good idea, but it's not a whole picture yet. So I'll say again in his best interest he's not for a beginner rider.

He's actually quite judgemental. As you can see here, he can be quoted saying

Really? Another picture? I'm over here trying to eat grass, and you want to take my picture? M'kay lady, whatever 🙄

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 in my defense, technically, this is by the trailers, and I'm showing that I don't just drill trailer training for whatever that's worth 😊💛

His trailering skills are drastically improving (helps that I'm repetitive.... really repetitive 🤷‍♀️)
He thinks about putting his back legs in, and I'm working on other ideas to fix that. I'll probably call in a professional because, again, I've never had to undo anything like this or even teach it. So, this is my attempt at teaching it. This is so odd saying it, but I'm not even teaching. He knows how to get on a trailer & I know that just like I know, he knows how to tie. They're just issues for him?
I'm tired and not explaining this well, but anyway, here is a video of him being calm and stepping up onto the old trailer. He's halfway and will hang out with me for a few seconds, and then he wants to back out on his own.
For the record, I am not in my "classic" black leggings and mud boots. I actually wore shorts today, and working alone means yall get a weird camera angle 😅 sorry?

WE GOT BOTH FRONT FEET ON THE TRAILER

No setting back, no bolting just a bit of hesitation but he did it!!
He was so proud of himself y'all!! 👏👏👏👏
Of course I didn't get video but we can try again tomorrow and see if my phone will play nice

11/07/2025

So I decided not to do trailer stuff today - I mean, yes, we worked on it, but that's not today's post.
Flynn here has gotten much better about his bubble and is showing curiosity in much more! I'm so pleased with this new development 🙌
Here is what it's generally like to catch him - though it was a bit slow and awkward because I opened the door all the way in hopes you could see more. He was focused on why I was moving a little differently and the halter, but as you can tell, he doesn't really care.
It rained today and blew in part of my grooming area, so instead of sweeping it away, I made it part of the display of his reactions. When I fist got Flynn, I couldn't lead him into this area. I had to back him in because it is a little dark & has a slight slant, so it was a bit intimidating. Positive encouragement and repetition has solved that uneasiness for this section of the barn, and he took well to crossties.
This is generally how he stands for anything - grooming, tacking, flyspray, etc. But I wanted to show it and it's good practice for our skills test.

Also THIS IS HOW HE USUALLY IS FOR HIS FEET 🤪 I still swear that one day where I had to do a part 1 & 2 of working with him and his back feet he was like oh you're doing something new? Something different? Hmm, okay, I can do that too 😂

10/07/2025

Progress!!! It's not fantastic, but it's better than bolting away and setting back, so I'll gladly take it!!
