We will be testifying this evening at the RI State House in support of banning rodenticides- come out and support us and this bill!

On Tuesday, March 11th, the Rhode Island House of Representatives will hold a committee hearing on our priority bill (house bill 5704) to ban the rat poisons killing raptors. This is our best opportunity yet to show up for birds of prey.

You’ve volunteered, written letters, called your state lawmakers, and signed postcards and petitions to save owls, hawks, eagles, and more.

Now, we need you to take two minutes to contact your state representative and urge them to support the rat poison ban bill being heard on Tuesday.

To learn who your legislators are, please email Director of Advocacy Phoenix Wheeler at [email protected] and you’ll receive an automatic reply with how to make the call and details about the hearing.

Thank you for showing up for raptors. We know when we work together, we win.

Great news for this little Barred Owl! After being found injured in Charlestown a few weeks ago, this resilient bird has made a full recovery and is ready to return to the wild, where it belongs. 🦉✨

Unfortunately, the area where this owl was found had multiple rodent poison bait traps—specifically, SGARs (second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides), which are incredibly dangerous for wildlife like owls. These poisons work by preventing blood clotting, causing animals who ingest them to bleed internally and die a slow, painful death. When an owl preys on a poisoned rodent, it often becomes a secondary victim, ingesting the poison and facing the same fatal consequences.

However, after persistent conversations with property managers and sharing safer alternatives to rodent control, the poison bait boxes were finally removed! This is a huge win for wildlife conservation. Every action we take to raise awareness and remove harmful practices makes a difference in protecting these incredible creatures.

Now we know that this little owl has one less threat to worry about, and its food supply will be much safer. 🐁 Let’s keep working together to ensure fewer animals fall victim to these harmful poisons!

A barred owl rescued by two Charlestown police officers last month has recovered and will be returned to the wild soon.

My partner, Sheida Soleimani, roped me into it! Over time, however, rehabbing has become a core part of my life — not just in terms of a daily routine, but also as a way of thinking about the human and nonhuman worlds in which we live. Even as rehabbing work on the ground is labor-intensive and ex...
