Hi, I’m Katie—founder of Wildling Dog Training—and I thought I’d reintroduce myself!

My journey with dogs began long before it became my career. From volunteering and fostering to earning a degree in Animal Behavior and Welfare, dogs have always been a huge part of my life. In 2019, I left the corporate world to follow my passion and launched Wildling. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of dogs and their humans live more balanced, adventurous lives.

Through fostering and working with my own dogs, I’ve dealt with everything from reactivity and in-pack fighting to anxiety and fear. These experiences have shaped my training philosophy and deepened my understanding of canine behavior.

I’m certified in Canine Nutrition, Raw Feeding, and hold a diploma in Canine Behavior Science & Technology. I’ve completed an apprenticeship and continue learning through seminars and ongoing education—because I believe growth never stops.

I take a holistic approach to dog care, blending lifestyle, nature, breed fulfillment, nutrition, and training to meet each dog’s unique needs.

In Nebraska, I co-founded a structured doggy daycare, mentored new trainers, partnered with a shelter to create a successful adoption training program, and ran group classes like puppy socials and confidence building.

Now in the DFW area, I’m so excited to continue this journey and connect with more amazing dogs and their people! 🐾

Our Day Training & Board & Train programs are designed to help you raise a well-mannered, confident pup—without all the stress of doing it alone! 🐾

💡 Day Training (Mon–Thurs):
Drop your pup off for a day full of structured play, enrichment, and personalized training. Pick up a happy, tired dog who’s learning all the right things!
Fridays are for private sessions with you—so we can show you exactly what your dog learned that week and how to keep the momentum going at home.

🏕️ Board & Train:
Heading out of town? Let us work with your dog while you’re away! Our Board & Train program includes daily hands-on training tailored to your dog’s needs—whether it’s manners, leash walking, recall, or reactivity.

Reggie the mini Dachshund joined us for a puppy consultation! During our session, we helped his parents troubleshoot a few potty training challenges. We also introduced Reggie to marker training and began working on his recall command. Plus, we helped him get more comfortable entering and exiting his crate on his own.

Socialization and exposure are key for puppies! 🐾 It’s essential for them to experience a variety of sights, sounds, textures, and smells. Remember, getting your puppy out in the world doesn’t always mean direct interactions with people or other dogs—it’s about introducing them to new environments and experiences. 🌍✨

Why Supervision Matters
Puppies explore the world with their mouths, so if they’re left alone, they may chew furniture, eat things they shouldn’t, or have potty accidents inside. By keeping a close eye on them, you can:
✔️ Redirect unwanted behaviors before they become habits
✔️ Reinforce good manners and potty training
✔️ Keep them safe from potential hazards

When to Use a Crate
A crate provides a safe and comfortable space for your puppy when you can’t supervise them. It’s not a punishment—it’s a tool to help them learn boundaries and a safe spot for them to rest (puppies need a lot of naps) 😴
Crates are especially useful when:
🐶 You’re leaving the house for a short period
🐶 You’re busy and can’t give full attention (e.g., cooking, working)
🐶 Your puppy needs a break or nap

It’s perfectly okay to crate your puppy while you are home! It’s important for them to learn independence.

Let’s talk dog ENRICHMENT 🐾
There are 5 types of enrichment, these are summarized below:

1. Social Enrichment
This focuses on fostering positive interactions with humans and other dogs. Examples include dog playdates, pack walks, structured doggy daycare, or simply spending quality time with family members.

2. Nutritional Enrichment
Providing variety and stimulation through food helps keep dogs engaged. This can include puzzle feeders, interactive feeding toys, or offering different textures and flavors to enhance mealtime.

3. Occupational Enrichment
Keeping a dog’s mind and body active is key. Activities like puzzle toys, scent games, or obedience training provide mental stimulation and require dogs to use their brains.

4. Sensory Enrichment
Engaging a dog’s senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch—can be highly beneficial. Introducing new scents, textures, and sounds, offering toys with different noises, or exploring a new trail or park can help keep their environment stimulating.

5. Physical Enrichment
Ensuring dogs get the right amount of exercise for their breed and age is crucial. Walks, runs, hikes, playtime, and dog sports all contribute to their physical health and happiness.

While many enrichment products claim to provide the same benefits as a 30-minute walk, they should complement—not replace—essential outdoor activities like walks, hikes, and playtime. Additionally, you can create plenty of DIY enrichment games at home without the need for expensive products.
