Say hi to Artemis!

Artemis is a 9 month old female black tri Aussie mix with a lovely full tail. She has been recently spayed and she came to ARM with Honey and Axel, as a breeder surrender. She is presumed to be Axel’s daughter, but we have not confirmed this. What we do know is Artemis is 100% cuteness with a splash of Aussie-sass when the occasion calls for it. (You know what we’re talking about!)

Artemis came to rescue extremely shy and very nervous; wanting to hide in corners in the presence of humans. Since she has arrived to ARM, she has shown herself to be playful young dog – happily playing with the other dogs in the home. Artemis is also beginning to seek out human affection with those she trusts.

Artemis, while newer to living inside a home, does keep her crate clean at night and is picking up basic manners. Her new home will need to be committed to socializing Artemis and it would be strongly encouraged that participation in puppy/basic obedience classes be considered as Artemis is quite new to living life as a pet in a home setting.

Introducing Axel!

Axel is a stunning 4 year old neutered red tri male with a docked tail. He is slightly underweight, weighing around 40-45 lbs, and should be a bit closer to 50 lbs. Axel arrived to rescue with Honey after being surrendered by a breeder.

Axel is the goodest of boys. He is a calm, gentle, curious dog who came to rescue very shy and nervous. As he's gotten more settled in his foster home, his affectionate and curious nature has come to the surface and he has shown himself to be a gentle soul who is embracing the new changes in his life as a new opportunity for new adventures.

Axel is currently living with other dogs and cats and is relatively indifferent to the other dogs beyond quiet nose touches - he hasn't yet initiated attempts to play, choosing to stay closer to the humans. He also has demonstrated a respectful curiosity towards the cats in the home - responding to their cues and lending a watchful eye as he observes their movements around the home. He does seem to be mystified by their defiance for the laws of gravity and will follow them around as to figure out how such mystery occurred. Axel does appear to be a dog that is uncertain of social play between dogs and cats; wanting to intervene like a nosy neighbor wagging their fingers at the unruly children at play. There hasn't been any aggression observed from Axel and his fosters are confident that as he gets more exposure to typical social play, he will become more at ease with those types of interactions happening around him.

Axel knows sit, lay down, come, and no/off. He is crate trained and house trained. He is learning how to walk on a leash and his fosters are working on "wait" and "leave it". He is a love bug, wanting to curl up close to you for pets and snuggles. At this time, Axel does appear to be a medium to lower energy dog, demonstrating a nice off switch in the evenings and enjoyment in loping around the yard - he does love to roll in the grass and will happily emerge from his rolling hijinks covered in grass and dirt.

Axel is living with older children and has responded well to their noises and will engage in play with them appropriately. It is important to keep in mind that while Axel is a very gentle and friendly dog, he does have a deep warning bark that comes out when guests or delivery people come to the home. He is able to be redirected relatively easily and does better when he's able to move away from the stimuli. After a few mins, Axel will show an interest to meet/approach and will do so with some caution. His first instinct is to move away and it will be important for his new home to be supportive and help him grow his confidence.

Meet Miss Honey!

Honey is a 4 year old spayed black tri with dark honey brown eyes and a docked tail. Her ideal weight is around 40-45 lbs but she arrived to rescue needing to lose a few. Honey came to rescue with two other dogs from a breeder/hoarding situation.

Despite her past life, Honey truly matches her name, so so sweet; a complete lover girl.

Her fosters are working hard on her leash manners, as she likes to pull. She does have good manners when passing other dogs and is very treat motivated. Honey is also great in the crate.

Honey gets along well with both of the resident dogs and seems to have the demeanor of getting along well with just about any dog, but she doesn't care to really hang out or play with them, she only has eyes for her people. Honey doesn't have much interest in dog toys; she is the epitome of a velcro dog, only having eyes for people and wants to follow them around all over the house. In her foster's words: "She is GLUED to her people. There is never a time where she's not leaning up against or trying to kiss (one of us)."

Who could pass on a sweet girl like Honey, who truly lives up to her name?

The details:

Needs fence: for now, yes as she does not have established recall, but once she's bonded to her owner it wouldn't be an issue

Good with dogs: Yes, but doesn't have much interest in playing with them.

Good with cats: Unknown, but given her mellow temperament, it likely would not be an issue with proper introductions.

Good with kids: Reported to be, but not confirmed.

Welcome to ARM Leroy!
Leroy is an Aussie/Border Collie mix neutered male, weighing around 50 lbs. He has heterochromia, meaning he has different color eyes. Leroy is a young black & white adult dog
who came to ARM as a stray from up north. Leroy was diagnosed with Lymes disease when he was at the shelter and is currently taking medication without issue.

Leroy has a cheerful and playful puppy personality that brings a lot of joy. He enjoys entertaining himself with toys, especially chasing a ball, and loves to chew on stuffing — often with a toy that's a bit ragged but still fun for him to play with. He’s happiest when he's outside, running around and exploring, and he doesn’t need a fenced yard to enjoy his time outdoors.

His current foster home is by a lake and he's comfortable around the water - he's happy to walk in and get covered (as evidenced by his bio pic), although he hasn't shown interest in swimming yet.
Leroy loves to be close to his people and is very affectionate—he tends to stick right by your side.

He's trained in basic commands like sit, down, stay, and can even shake a paw. One thing for potential homes to keep in mind is that Leroy can be protective of his food and bones around other dogs, so he'd do best in a home where those habits can be managed with gentle guidance.

The details:

Need fence: No

Good with dogs: Yes, though can be protective of his food and bones

Good with cats: Unknown, not currently exposed

Good with kids: Unknown, not currently exposed

Justify, called Izzy in her foster home, has made huge strides since coming into rescue. Her amazing foster has put in a lot of time into helping Izzy gain confidence in meeting new people - recruiting her awesome network of folks who were willing to spend some time exposing Izzy to the experience of meeting new people, going to new places, and learning that people make great treat dispensers!

Even with the remarkable progress Izzy has made, she is still extremely cautious and nervous meeting new people and other dogs - requiring very slow introductions and the abiltiy to retreat to her safe person. The right home will be committed to continuing Izzy's education and exposure, while also accepting that Izzy will likely never be a super friendly dog that will happily greet guests who come to the home. Izzy is a dog with endless capacity to love and will be a great companion for the right home. (Video is showing Izzy at 15 minutes into meeting another dog and couple for the first time - who happen to be wonderful long-time fosters with ARM. ❤️)

Introducing Atticus!
Atticus, a 7 year old neutered red tri tapping in at 18 lbs is up for adoption due to life changes at home and his family is sadly having to give him up for adoption.

Atticus is noted to be low to mid energy, cuddly, loyal, and adaptable. He is house trained and crate trained; though he currently doesn’t need a crate at night and will happily sleep in his dog bed. He isn’t naughty in the night – he doesn’t have accidents in the house, chew on things he’s not supposed to, nor does he get noisy while people are sleeping. He travels well in the car, currently riding in his crate to do so.

He is snuggly, loyal and friendly. Typically, he will follow his person around the house and curl up next to anyone on a soft surface. Atticus is happy-go-lucky and he is very adaptable; such as relaxing quickly in new environments and people. He's loyal to whoever loves him up.

Atticus walks very well on a leash. He can be reactive on a leash or in the house when a dog passes by. Atticus may need a more slow introduction to other dogs, depending on the energy level of the other dogs. He has no reaction to the other dog in the home and reads her cues when she gives him the signal to stay away. His reaction to cats recently was lay on top of a friend's cat on a car ride!

Atticus needs work on recall outside. He's quick to recall in the house. If he sees another dog and he is off leash, he will not return to the person calling him back.

Atticus is currently being fostered by his owner.

Zoey is a 7 yo black tri female Aussie who was adopted from ARM years ago and was recently returned to rescue after the owner lost their spouse. Zoey is a standard size Aussie with friendly brown eyes who came to rescue weighing 56 lbs. It is believed that her ideal weight should be approximately 40-45 lbs. Zoey is friendly with humans and other dogs.

Her previous owner indicated that she is good with children of all ages. Zoey has gotten along just fine with the male canine in her foster home, is house trained, can use a doggy door if one is available & walks nicely on a leash. So far she has been just fine having the run of the house when humans are away, not getting into mischief or showing signs of separation anxiety.

She enjoys playing with her many toys and chasing squirrels in the yard. Her fosters feel Zoey could either be an only dog or join another well adjusted dog, however, they are not certain about cats or other small animals. If potential owners have cats or other small animals, it would be recommended that slow, monitored introductions be implemented. Like many dogs, Zoey gets nervous with thunderstorms or fireworks but finds comfort sitting in the bathroom either in the tub or next to it.

Zoey is a sweet dog, looking for her new home that has time and love to give and the ability to take her on adventures as she has plenty of miles to run and adventures to experience!

A fun update on Buddy - our little 7 month old Aussie mix who was found hiding behind an A/C unit. He has come a long way!

"Buddy needed a lot of patience as he got to know his humans and learn what it was like to live in a home environment. Now. he loves being brushed, running in the backyard, and chasing & playing with his foster mates. He also has a solid off switch and is able to enjoy downtime.

He has Lymes and he takes his medication easily. He has also made great progress with his house manners, learning to sit, control his bark, and crate training. He gets along well in the crate during the day. Walking on a leash is a work in progress, but he is such a smart little guy - he will soon "get it"!

His fosters report that Buddy is showing that they have earned his trust. He approaches them wanting attention, pets, and cuddles. While he still does spook easily, Buddy has grown leaps and bounds since arriving to his foster home in early June."

A reminder of his details:

Need fence? Preferred, though ultimately likely not – safety must be considered until trust and reliable recall has been established

Good with dogs? Yes

Good with cats? No exposure

Good with kids? Older kids (ages 10 and up)
