Training Doesn’t Have to Be So Serious

Somewhere along the way, a lot of people started thinking training had to look rigid and formal. Straight backs, perfect sits, no laughter allowed. But here’s the truth — training doesn’t have to be serious all the time. In fact, it shouldn’t be.

Our dogs learn best when they’re having fun, and honestly, so do we. A game of tug where your pup practices “drop it,” a quick round of recall in the yard, or asking for a “sit” before you toss their toy — that’s training too. And it’s just as important as the structured stuff.

When training feels like play, dogs are more eager to participate, and owners are more likely to stick with it. Everyone wins. You don’t need an hour-long session with a stopwatch. You just need a few minutes here and there, full of encouragement, patience, and fun.

At the end of the day, training isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection. And the more fun you both have, the stronger that connection grows.
