Calvert County Animal Shelter The Linda L. The shelter is a municipal facility within the Calvert County Government Department of Public Safety in Calvery County, Maryland.

Kelley Animal Shelter is an open admission animal shelter that receives and cares for owner-surrendered animals and stray animals in Calvert County. It was named after Linda L. Kelley, a former Calvert County Board of County Commissioner, to honor her advocacy for the humane care and treatment of animals. Our mission is to provide compassionate, humane care and treatment to the shelter population

and responsibly re-home animals into the community. Kelley Animal Shelter also aspires to meet all requirements listed in the Five Freedoms.
• Freedom from hunger or thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
• Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
• Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
• Freedom to express (most) normal behavior by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind.
• Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

🎆 Heads Up, Pet Parents near Saint Leonard! 🎆
A local fireworks event is scheduled for August 23rd, and while it’s fun for humans, it can be frightening for our furry friends.
Let’s make sure pets stay safe and sound!

🐾 PET FIREWORK SAFETY TIPS:
✅ Keep pets indoors, even if they’re usually outside
✅ Create a calm, quiet space with background noise (TV, music, fan)
✅ Use a secure collar with ID and ensure microchip info is up-to-date
✅ Close windows and curtains to muffle noise and hide flashes

💊 CONSIDER ANTI-ANXIETY HELP:
If your pet has a history of firework fear, now is the time to talk to your vet about calming aids or medication. Don’t wait—schedule that appointment early!

🔎 IF YOUR PET GOES MISSING:
📌Notify Calvert County Animal Shelter and nearby shelters ASAP – our lost pet report can be found here: https://www.calvertcountymd.gov/3418/Lost-and-Found-Pets
📌Post in local lost pet groups and your neighborhood forums
📌Leave out worn clothing or bedding at home to help guide them back
📌Don’t give up—many pets are found within a few days!

🐱🩺 It’s National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! 🩺🐱

Regular vet visits are essential to keep your feline friend happy and healthy — but we know that for many cats (and their humans), the carrier + vet combo can feel stressful.

Here are some tips to make it a pawsitive experience:

🏠 At Home – The Carrier
• Leave the carrier out year-round so it becomes a familiar part of their environment, not a “once-a-year scary box.”
• Add cozy bedding and treats inside to create positive associations.
• Feed meals in the carrier to encourage voluntary exploration.
• Use feline pheromone sprays (like Feliway) 15–30 minutes before travel to promote calmness.

🚗 On the Way – Travel Time
• Keep the carrier secure and covered with a light blanket to reduce visual stress.
• Drive smoothly and keep noise low — soft music can help.

🏥 At the Vet – The Visit
• Bring a favorite blanket or toy for comfort.
• Ask if your clinic offers cat-friendly exam rooms or allows exams in the carrier bottom if your cat is nervous.
• Reward your cat with treats and affection after the visit.

🐾 A little preparation goes a long way toward making vet trips less stressful — and ensures your kitty gets the care they deserve! 🩺

🎶🐾 Looking for Your Next Symphony? Meet Mozart! 🐾🎶

Sweet little Mozart is the last of his litter—his brothers Amadeus and Wolfgang have already found their forever families, and now it’s his turn to shine.
At just 13 weeks old, this Husky mix pup is available for meet-and-greets now.💙

✨ Mozart is as adorable as they come, but before you fall in love with those baby-blue Husky eyes, here’s the truth about Huskies:
• 🌪️ Energy to spare – Huskies need lots of exercise and enrichment. A tired Husky is a happy Husky!
• 🗣️ Talkative personalities – Get ready for “woo-woos” and plenty of chatter.
• 🎩 Escape artists – Fences should be secure, because these pups are famous for their great escapes.
• 🤝 Loyal & loving – With the right home, they’re incredible companions who bond deeply with their people.

Mozart is waiting for someone who understands what makes Huskies so unique (and so lovable).
He may be small now, but he’s ready to grow into a life full of adventure, love, and maybe a little mischief.

🎵 Could Mozart be the final note in your family’s perfect harmony?
Come meet him today and see if your heart skips a beat. ❤️
