Story County Animal Control & Shelter is responsible for overseeing and addressing animal control issues and concerns in rural Story County, as well as 12 cities that have agreements with the county for animal control and/or sheltering services. We encourage you to submit your questions, comments, and concerns, but please note this is a moderated online discussion site and not a public forum. We a

re available by phone to answer your questions and schedule appointments for adoption Monday - Friday 8a.m. - 4 p.m. If you feel you have an animal control emergency please call the story county sheriffs office and they will contact us. Adoptions will be done by appointment only, after an approved application is submitted. You can sponsor a animal that is currently in our care by visiting our shelter page on Petfinder. Just click on any of our adoptable pets listed and hit the purple sponsor button. https://www.petfinder.com/search/pets-for-adoption/...
By sponsoring an animal through petfinder, the petfinder foundation notifies us right away that we have received a donation, and ensures that our shelter receives it. If the animal you sponsor gets adopted, don't worry, that money will be used to care for the many other animals waiting to find their forever homes.

You will never meet a Beagle with as big of a smile as Ella! This charming and cheerful senior girl refuses to slow down and is always looking for human accompaniment. She does well with blankets and adores head and ear scratches! Ella is overweight (shhh don't say it out loud!) and would benefit with frequent short walks and a good diet - good thing she loves being outside almost as much as she loves people🥰

Meet Nelson❤️

Nelson is estimated to be around 2 years old and has been with us since October of 2024. He is a large and oh-so-sweet boy! You would never even know that he's FIV+. Nelson loves everything and everyone- but he especially adores getting head scratches and cuddling up on his blankets!

Ella is all smiles and love! Would appreciate someone who will help her on her weight-loss journey🥰

All dogs and puppies come spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fees are $75.00 for adult dogs and $100.00 for puppies at the time of adoption. Our adoptions are done by approved applications, so you must apply and be approved before being able to meet any of our dogs or puppies.

We've seen a lot of cute and cuddly moments on previous posts... it's time to showcase our silly ones! 🤪

Amaretti has been renamed to Reba after being adopted on 3/14/25! Fishing seems to be her favorite pastime... as the fish of course.

Piplup is now known as Ramsey! He was a staff favorite (okay but who really isn't adored by the staff) and was adopted on 3/3/25.

Roger... oh Roger🤣 Caught in 4k during a slightly embarrassing moment!! This sweet boy found his furever home on 3/7/25.

Last but certainly not least, we have Squackle... formerly known as Ramona! She has grown up SO much after going home on 9/16/24!

🐾 Thank You for Supporting Our Shelter! 🐾

We are beyond grateful to everyone who came out to our fundraiser today and helped us raise $3,260 for the animals in our care! Every single donation, big or small, makes a huge impact—providing food, medical care, and a second chance for animals in need.

A huge shoutout to Lincoln Tap for hosting, the amazing Chasin' Tails Fun Run crew for organizing this event, and to every single person who donated, showed up, and cheered us on. Your support means the world to us and the animals we care for.

Sweet, quiet, loving, and cuddly. Huxley often gets skipped over in our adoption room because he's usually in the back snoozing away! This sweet 7-month-old neutered male would love a soft place to curl up in your home.

IT'S !!!

Purrdy is now called Herschel. He was adopted on 11/22/24 and can't get enough of his new tunnel and toys!

Nani is now known as Saybel and has made so many good friends🥰 She is the cute little calico and was adopted on 1/18/2024.

Keeping up with the cuddle buddies, we have Pop the tuxedo! He was adopted on 10/29/2024!

We have SO MANY UPDATES to share with everyone in the coming weeks, but we're not complaining in the slightest. We love seeing our former favorites thrive with their new families! 🩷
