Second Chance Habitat We are dedicated to helping animals in harm's way by finding rescues, fosters, sponsors and adopters for abandoned and/or abused pets.

We are a 501 (C)(3) all volunteer, non-profit, pet rescue group. Welcome to Second Chance Habitat Facebook, a site dedicated to helping animals in harm's way. We try to make viewers aware of the dogs' and cats' plights, and whenever possible, find rescues, fosters, sponsors and adopters for the pets whose lives depend on people who respond on their behalf.

Hi… I’m Caramel!!

I’m not sure how long I’ve been here… but I know it’s been too long.

I watch other dogs pack up their things and leave with their new families. I try to be patient. I try to be brave. But every night I curl up in my kennel and wish it was someone’s couch instead.

I’m about 40–45 pounds — the perfect size to fit right next to you. I love to snuggle (I’m really good at it). I like to play, too, especially when I feel safe and happy.

I came here with my friend Cole. Having him made it a little less scary. The people here think I might be able to have dog friends with the right introductions.

What I really want though… is a person.
Someone who will choose me.
Someone who will let me rest my head in their lap and finally exhale.

I’ve been in boarding for way too long. I’m trying not to lose hope.

If you can’t adopt me, maybe you could foster me? Even a break from this kennel would mean everything.

Please come meet me. I promise I’m worth it. 💛

Caramel is Heartworm positive unfortunately but has been on slow kill treatments. She is up to date on vaccines. Caramel is located at Muddy Paws Bed & Biscuit in Columbia, NC.

Fostering helps us learn what each dog needs and is also a great way to see if a dog is the right fit before adopting.

Approved homes only. $150 adoption fee. Requirements:
• Adoption application
• Vet & Personal references
• Possible home visit

We recommend meet-and-greets with your family and current dogs.
❗ Dogs must live indoors
❗ Some may require a fenced yard

All animals are spayed/neutered before adoption and updated on vet care as funding allows. Any dogs who are heartworm positive are on slow-kill prevention, but will likely need fast-kill treatment.

Courtesy Post for Chaz, a Charming Yorkie Mix Looking for His Forever Home!

Chaz is a lovable 4-year-old Yorkie mix weighing about 15 pounds—big enough that you won't have to worry about tripping over him like you might with a tiny Yorkie!

This handsome little guy is heartworm negative, microchipped, neutered, fully vaccinated, and freshly groomed. One of his most endearing features is his adorable underbite, which only adds to his sweet, innocent expression and irresistible charm.

Chaz is house-trained, dog-friendly, and an easy companion to have around. He isn't much interested in playing and would much rather spend his time relaxing on the couch beside his favorite person. He enjoys going for walks, walks nicely on a leash, and loves getting out to explore the neighborhood.

He's also a good little watchdog and will let you know when someone is approaching. Because he can be curious and likes to wander, a securely fenced yard is required.

Chaz is a wonderful dog who is ready for a home where he can be loved, cherished, and cared for the way he deserves.

Sweetheart dog Maverick needs a foster home! He's a great dog!

You can't help but smile when you look at Maverick's handsome picture! An Australian Shepherd and lab blend, he is just one happy boy who loves to frolic in the back yard and play in his own little "pool"! He was pulled from the Lexington County shelter in SC on his last day and what a great save he is!

He has such a great love of life and shares his enthusiasm with everyone he meets! He'll make a great running companion but is just as comfortable close by on a couch. He loves to be close to his humans and is eager to please.

Maverick is very smart. He is housebroken and obedient and responds quickly to commands. He is described as very friendly, walks great on a leash and is so good with other dogs--and cats! He lives in a foster home with both and gets along very well with all the animals.

Maverick is three years old, 65 pounds, neutered, fully vaccinated and heartworm negative.

He would love a home where he could flourish with a loving family. A nice fenced yard would make his life complete! He loves to explore and play ball.

Ophelia is a pretty hound mix who was rescued from a North Carolina shelter on her final day—and what a wonderful save she has turned out to be!

This sweet, gentle girl loves everyone she meets, whether they have two legs or four. She's housebroken, crate trained, and currently thriving in a foster home with a 13-year-old Great Pyrenees, who has become her best buddy.

Ophelia is approximately seven years old, fully vaccinated, and in excellent health. She will be spayed soon and is more than ready to find the forever home she deserves. You won't find a more loving companion. While she is humble and easygoing, she still has a joyful, playful spirit that makes her a great fit for almost any family.

Like her fairytale counterpart, poor Cinderella has endured some difficult times over the past few weeks.

She was abandoned on the side of a busy road with her faithful companion, Sully. The two dogs managed to avoid traffic for several days before a kind-hearted good samaritan brought them to safety. They were later transported to the Wayne County shelter where Sully was adopted, leaving Cinderella alone in a kennel environment that has been hard on her.

Without Sully by her side, Cinderella is understandably scared and withdrawn. But beneath that uncertainty is a very sweet young dog who simply needs a loving home and a chance to regain her confidence. She enjoys attention from people and gets along well with other dogs.

Cinderella is approximately 18 months old and weighs about 40 pounds. She is fully vaccinated and spayed. In person, she is absolutely beautiful and appears to be a mix of Yellow Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever.

And, just like the original Cinderella, she is waiting for her own happily-ever-after—someone who will change her life and show her that good things can happen after hard times.

Second Chance Habitat has just found out from the pilot that BoJo is flying into the Franklin airport tomorrow around 11:30 am.

He's about 4 years old, 49 lb and Michael Dunlow said he could take him in. He does have a couple families interested in him.

We really need a driver on to pick him up at the airport and transport him to Michael's, please?

We just found out from the pilot that BoJo is flying into the Franklin airport tomorrow around 11:30 am. This sweet little dog is about 4 years old, 49 lb and Michael Dunlow said he could take him in. He does have a couple families interested in him.
