🐴Floating Horses Teeth🐴

🔴 What is floating?

Horse teeth floating is the process of evening out, removing ridges from teeth and correcting other dental misalignment to allow the horse to use the full grinding surface of their teeth when eating.

🔴 Why float your horses teeth?

Horses have hypsodont teeth meaning that their teeth continue to grow throughout most of their life time. Hypsodont teeth can wear down unevenly causing issues for points, hooks, waves, and steps to form.

🔵 Benifits of floating your horses teeth!

Floating teeth annually has many benifits including improved chewing and digestion, improved manure quality, decreased risk of choke, less food waste, increased longevity of teeth, improved oral comfort when chewing and in the bridle, reduced risk of tooth fracture and infection and improved long-term health.

‼️The More You Know‼️
Pneumonia in Baby Calves

🔴 What is Pneumonia?
Pneumonia in calves is the most common respiratory disease seen in young dairy and beef calves. The disease is caused by a variety of viral and bacterial pathogens (coronavirus is most common) and environmental factors. Poor ventilation, high humidity, weather changes, crowding, poor transfer of passive immunity, poor nutrition and mixing of age groups all predispose calves to this disease.

🔴 Symptoms
At 60 days of age (2-4 months of age) a calf's maternal antibodies start to decrease, weakening their immune system. Signs of a sick calf include: lethargy, depression, decreased appetite, and respiratory distress.
Pneumonia can be deadly: morbidity rates for individual groups of calves can reach 100%; case fatality rates range from 5%–20%.

🔵 Treatment
The best treatment for pneumonia in calves is through prevatitive efforts from good husbandry, herd vaccinations, and having good herd maternal instincts.
Treatment with medication should consist of the use of an antibiotic (Draxxin is commonly recommended for ease of use and efficacy).

🎉Summer Time Celebrations Pet Safety🎉

Summer time parties, BBQ's and celebrations are right around the corner! Make sure you are taking care of your pets during this time so they can enjoy their time both during and after the festivities!

🎉 Does your dog have anxiety triggered by celebration events (fireworks, large crowds, car rides, ect.)? Call ahead before your event and talk to the doctor about medications to help keep your pets calm during stressful events. Other things to consider would be ensuring your pets have properly fitting collars and leashes with identification information on them. Microchipped pets are also 2X as likely to be reunited with their owner if lost.

🎉 Everyone loves a good BBQ ... even your pets! Don't feed your pets any human food and especially avoid giving your dog fatty foods, all animal bones (steak, chicken, ribs, ect.), pork products, corn or corn cobs and grease. All of these foods can lead to inflammation of the digestive tract, pancreatitis, obstructions, and expensive vet bills! Instead opt to share carrots🥕, apples🍎, or even a slice of watermelon🍉 with your pets.
Check out the list below for foods that are okay to share!

🎉 Over exposure to summer sunshine and heat can be harmful to your pets. Avoid time outside during the hottest part of the days. Limit time spent outside, especially with brachycephalic breeds such as Frenchies, Bostons, Pugs, Bulldogs, Boxers and any other short nosed dogs. DO NOT leave your pets in cars unattended. When taking your dogs on walks, touch the cement and if it is hot to the touch for you, DO NOT WALK YOUR DOG ON IT. If your dog is showing signs of heat stroke such as excessive panting, incordination and lethargy, call your vet immediately. Heat stroke is LIFE THREATENING!!!

Be proactive about your pets heath this Summer, and give them the chance to enjoy the celebrations just as much as you!!!!
