Here are the winners of the contest for a free reading.

Grey horse (he won by only ONE vote!)- Hi my name is Char. I used to be “wild and free”, now I’m not. I would love my guardian to know how I feel.

BUT - this guy pulled at my heart and with only one vote less I feel they both deserve a reading. The rescue volunteers rallied for this boy sharing the post and asking for votes for him. So he’s getting one too.

Black dog - Valentino (Tino) is currently with Mayday Pit Bull Rescue & Advocacy. He was previously adopted and returned due to his extreme anxiety. We have a small group of dedicated volunteers and we would love to help him with his anxiety. We love him so much.💙

AND!!!!! A special surprise for everyone that entered. I saw all these beautiful animals - and my heart wants to give them all an opportunity to be heard. They deserve it. Every animal does. So each animal that was entered with have the chance to share one thought with their human.

I’ll connect with them each for a few minutes giving them the opportunity to say what is most important to them. This will happen later in the week / next week and their message will be posted under their photo. I wont be able to get to all of them in the same day but i wont forget anyone i promise.

If you want to opt out of this (for privacy) just message me and let me know. I didn’t intend to do this when I created the contest but their faces pull at my heart. For ease and time saving posting under the photo is the most efficient way.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful pets!!

How to Enter:

The winner will be chosen by popular vote! The pet with the most “likes” will win. If we have a tie, Ill make a tie breaker.

Voting ends tomorrow Sunday 9/14 at 6pm.

I encourage you to enter, but I also encourage you to take the time to read what others write and truly vote for the pet you feel needs this the most. (Good Karma!)

Good Luck!

My area is in the middle of a drought. During times like this please put water out for wild animals. It doesn’t take much.

Just a bucket somewhere where away from the house, where they will feel safe to drink.

And for the shorter smaller animals, a bowl.

Keep them full until rain comes again.

They are walking around looking for water. They need it for survival.

They are wandering closer to homes and dangerous areas looking for water.

Its a small way to help big.

I see so many people give up on rescues way too soon.

Please remember how hard it is for a rescue to transition into a home. They have likely been given up on, been in a shelter, then a foster, than a new home. It is SO much change. They likely have had different expectations at each home.

Animals know they are helpless. They don’t get to choose where they live. They are scared. These fears and confusion and uncertainty bring out their worse. They will do uncharacteristic things. They will have triggers. They will react. And if humans put themselves in their shoes humans would feel the same way.

Why should they trust you? They don’t know you. You have to earn their trust. And that is fair. So of course if you overwhelm them with animals, humans, all sorts of new things they will react. They are scared and they are trying to protect themselves.

Put yourself in their position. Imagine being uprooted. No say in where you go or who you go with. You don’t know what to expect. You don’t know where you are. BUT, you are expected to be perfect. Not make a mistake. Just somehow know how everything is suppose to go, what you are suppose to do, what is expected, what is naughty.

When humans adopt animals and don’t give them MONTHS of quiet decompression focused on slow relationship and trust building they are setting animals up to FAIL. And that is unfair.

Our entire world puts unreasonable expectations on animals. And collectively we need to work together to change that.

Think getting a baby from a breeder or shelter is any easier than an adult? Nope. You STILL have to take time and patience to earn trust, teach desired behaviors, and though I hate the word, you have to “train” your pet whether it is 8 weeks or 8 years old. It takes time and patience. Any transition into a new spot will confuse and scare an animal.

Please give them time. Give them patience. Give them QUIET while they adjust. Please. I so badly want to see people set animals up to succeed and stop setting them up to fail. I so badly want humans to be FAIR to animals. And the only way to do that is time is through time and patience and SLOW introductions and relationship building.

Going to the groomers can be stressful on any animal. Especially if you don’t brush your pet (dog or cat). When animals are matted it hurts. Why put them through this? It’s unfair to the animal.

Its very hard for animals to go to the groomers, be pulled, shaved, paws messed with, faces with clippers, etc…( I spent 5 years as a dog groomer). I remember how much many disliked it.

If you bring your pet to the groomer, work with them at home. This will prevent a lot of stress for your animal. If the pet is familiar with the process, used to having their feet played with, faces touched, clippers near their ears (sound), your pet will not be as stressed. And that’s the goal.

Groomers, Vets, etc.. these all cause stress for our animals because it is unfamiliar and too often they are handled in ways they are NOT handled at home. We dont have a need to handle our pets at home the way they need to be handled at the vet or groomer. So they panic because it’s different.

They get scared and who can blame them. They feel vulnerable. And they have a right to feel that way.

So find a vet and a groomer that is PATIENT and KIND. (There has been so much in the new lately about real abuse in grooming studios…. Heartbreaking) But do your part at home to get your pet ready for a easy experience, not a stressful experience.

We are here to help teach our pets how to navigate in a human world. It’s not easy for them. And the most important thing to remember is they don’t have the tools to do life in this human world, without our help and our teaching.

Sometimes people ask why I do things the way I do.

Some animals communicators will do zoom or phone calls. I do all remote sessions and here are just a few of the reasons why.

My process is animal centered. My goal is to honor the animals and their voice. Not cater to humans. During live or zoom appointment it is VERY hard to prevent humans from taking over. Even those with the best intentions will usually unintentionally take over.

How?

They will add details as I give information. These details can interfere with what the animal is trying to say.

They will redirect the conversation. My goal is to allow the animals to say what is important to them. I don’t mind having a topic to address that is of importance to the guardian. But, humans have a tendency to put their opinions and ideas in and when that happens it can be challenging to keep the conversation focused on the animal.

Lastly, you get a transcript. You can read it over and over and over. During call/zoom sessions, it can be hard to retain all the information. A lot will be forgotten. So many clients go back to their transcripts over and over for comfort, for information, and for reminders on how to help their animals when necessary.

When I do a reading all I want is the animals name, the questions (or topic), and the photo. No details. I want to get the information from the animal.

When humans start interjecting their thoughts and opinions or details it would be very easy to follow that path during the reading to satisfy the guardian. I am not doing this to satisfy the guardian, or to validate the thoughts or opinions they have about their pet or it’s behavior. I am here to honor the animal and keep the reading centered and focused on the animal, it’s feelings and emotions. That is why I do this. To be THEIR voice. And doing this the way I do allows me to do just that.

This was my dad’s dog, now my son’s dog. We took him into our family when my dad died. He bonded to my son. Buck (the dog) lives with me but he’s my son’s dog. This is what he does when my son leaves. He waits. In front of the door that we use to go in and out or in front of the window that he can see the driveway from.

It’s heartbreaking. He will do this for hours. And this weekend it will be days while my son’s away. Even though the dog is in his home. The home he lives in now.

Why am I sharing this? Make sure you have a plan for your pets incase something happens to you. This behavior is the result of Bucks (the dog) guardian dying.

Now, imagine the pets that end up in shelters? Or with families they don’t even know. Buck has known us, saw us daily, his entire life!

Imagine the animals that are rehomed because of “lack of time” or “deserve more than I can give”. What they want is to stay in the home they know with their guardian even if it is very limited attention and time.

We are meant to outlive our pets because our lives are longer. But if you’re like me you’ll have pets until it’s your time to go too. If so, HAVE A PLAN. Because the grief they feel when losing a guardian by death or by guardian surrender is very real.

Animals are not equipped like we are to handle that kind of loss. The least we can do is make sure they are safe and loved if something happens to us. And, keep them forever even when it gets difficult because our life gets in the way. Just like you do with kids.

Watching Buck like this crushes me. And he is one of the lucky ones. There are so many others voluntarily surrendered for convenience or others that are thrown into shelters, often kill shelters because no one in the family will take the pet after its guardian dies. Heartbreak is devastating for them but being in a shelter right after? It’s emotional abuse. So please don’t assume someone will take care of your animal. Be sure. Talk about it. Make arrangements. It doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 120 have a plan. Please.

Because this is the heartbreak of a dog that had a plan in place. THose that don't, those that end up in shelters, euthanized, or with people they don't know.... those animals feel even more grief, and in addition, cripping fear and confusion. Their lives are turned up side down when they have to leave their home, their guardians. I don't think enough people realize how much they suffer emotionally.

Losing a guardian is such a big heartache. So many people don't see that side of it because the animal goes to a new home or a sadly a shelter, and I want more people to see how hard pets grieve. Hopefully people will think twice before rehoming. Make arrangements to make it work. And also, I want to encourage EVERYONE to have a SOLID plan in place. Not a casual... "youll take my dog, right?".

Things to consider when hiring a “trainer”

A lot of trainer’s understand how to get animals to do things. Sometimes by force. Force doesn’t always mean abuse. It can mean no other option. But yes it can also mean shock collars, whips, spurs, incessant pressure on a choke lead, pushing a dog down into a sit or lay, or some punishment, etc.

These methods do not take the animals emotions into consideration. Though they will usually deliver results, they are not the best way to communicate with your animals.

Teaching animals, as I like to call it takes time and patience. If a trainer can deliver a result in record time there is usually a reason… and not a good one.

If you want to have the best relationship with your animals find a trainer that understands how animals think. If your animal has a behavior issue find a trainer that understand WHY the issue has presented, what is the animal unhappy or confused about. Then , correct the issue, not the animal.

This sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many trainers just train the end results and never take into consideration the animal’s emotions, free will, or thoughts. When the animal is taught with kindness, patience, and understanding they are a million times quicker to learn. And more importantly your relationship will be better.

Animals are not robots. You dont have to raise your voice. You don’t need to talk firmly. When your animal has a true relationship with you, you can talk to them like a human and they will listen willingly. They WANT to please you.

When I walk my dogs they are off lead. When I see a human, dog, or bicyclist approaching, I call their name, they come over and they sit without being asked because we have practiced over and over. And now they choose to do it without being asked because they know every time, without exception they will get praised and get a treat, so they CHOOSE to do it.

When the walk is done, I call their names and softly say please sit. And they do and wait for their leads to be put on. And there are thousands of other animals that do the same because they were never forced, they were taught without force.

So when looking for a trainer, please always find one that knows how animals think and doesnt just force them to sit, come, with no insight into the animals feelings or thoughts. There are more forceful trainers that have a lot of ego, that lack true empathy, than there are trainers that understand how animals think.

I repost this one often because it is so overlooked and SO important, one of the most meaningful things you can do to strengthen your relationship with your pets,

Do you thank you pets for the things they do that you like?

Do you thank them for listening to your requests?

Do you thank them for making good choices? Such as peeing and pooping where they are asked. “Sitting” when you request, etc.

I am a big advocate for communicating with animals the same way you do with humans.

If you ask a friend to bring you a water on their way from the kitchen, I’m sure you’ll say Thank You when they do.

This is not any different than asking your dog to “come”, “sit”, etc. It is not any different than asking your horse to “trot”, “leg yield”, etc. or asking your cat to use a litter box in the location you choose.

Thank you pet. Animals have almost zero choices in life. We make most of their decisions for them. The least we can do is thank them for being so agreeable.

This small gesture will show your pet appreciation. It will help your pet continue to be agreeable. And it will deepen your relationship.

Angie Morin, Animal Communicator

Angie Morin has felt a deep connection to animals since she was a child. She has spent her life working with animals and communicating with them. Angie has always been known to have a “special way” of connecting with animals. Animals of all types have always been drawn to her. Health and happy animals and animals in need. From dogs and cats and horses to squirrels and other “non traditional” animals, animals always seem to find Angie and attach to her. These always relax and feel very comfortable around her. She has been a professional equestrian, rider, and trainer for years. Always taking in the horses others couldn't work with. All of these “unruly” horses blossomed under Angie. She has always had a way of communicating with them. Years ago, Angie embarked on a more spiritual journey that allowed her to tap into a level of communication with animals. She has worked with many spiritual mentors to further strengthen and develop the skills she was born with.

Now Angie offers personalized readings for others. She not only can help you work through problems you are having with your pet but Angie can tell you what your animals purpose is in your life. Animals come into our lives for reasons we don't know of at the time. They are here on soul contracts with us to help us learn and develop and evolve. Despite the depth of the relationship between humans and the animals in their lives, some of Angie’s clients simple want a reading just to learn more about their animals wants, needs, and personality. Either way, for fun or for more in depth purposes a reading with Angie and your pet is sure to help strengthen the relationship between you and your pet and help you evolve spiritually.
