Isle of Wight County Humane Society

The IOWCHS is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501c3, home-based foster organization.

The Isle of Wight County Humane Society is an all-volunteer organization that promotes responsible pet care and the humane treatment of animals in our local community. We started 40 years ago, in 1980 with a small group of four individuals who shared a passion for helping animals. The small group of individuals recognized the need for a rescue group to assist both the Isle of Wight County Animal S

helter and citizens within the community with their pets. In 1999, our organization became an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501c3, home-based foster organization. As our organization grew and gained funds through pet adoptions and fundraising, we were able to start a medical grant program that assists individuals within the community who cannot afford veterinary care for their pets. We were also able to start a spay/neuter program to help control over-population.

Looking for a potential foster home for these two young adult cats that were apparently left behind at a mobile home by a previous tenant. The cats appear to be quite friendly and can be picked up and petted.

We cannot take the cats into rescue unless we have a foster home for them.

So many kittens and not enough fosters. Once again we are asking for foster families for several young kittens, all approximately 6 weeks old.

We can only rescue these kittens if we have foster homes in which to place them. Fostering is a fantastic short-term way to snuggle some cute kitties while doing a good deed. Isle of Wight County Humane Society will provide all vetting, vaccinations, meds, and will handle the adoptions. You provide a safe and loving home, cuddles, and socialization.

Two youngsters looking for homes. One male, one female. They are mixed breed, around 4 months old. They will be large adults, probably in the 70-80 pound range. They will be at PetSmart in Newport News on Sunday from 11:00-2:00.

***FOSTERS NEEDED***
These 3 little kittens are in need of rescue. We would like to help them, but need a foster home in order to do so. They are estimated to be about 6-8 weeks old. They will probably need a bit of help with socialization, although one or two have been picked up and held briefly.
Isle of Wight Humane Society will provide all the vetting and take care of the adoptions. Foster families provide a safe and loving environment and socialization.

UPDATE: Chex and Silvie have found placement. We are keeping our fingers crossed for them and hope it's a good fit.

Please keep in mind, we are ALWAYS in need of foster homes. Fostering a cat involves providing a temporary, safe home (usually 2 weeks to several months) to prepare them for adoption, with IOW County Humane Society covering veterinary costs while you provide daily care, socialization, and love. Chex and Silvie are looking for a second lease on life. They would love a barn home or a safe outdoor home. The cats were recently trapped and they show some promise for possibly becoming indoor/outdoor cats. Barn cats are great mousers, but even the best hunters need supplemental food so they do not get malnourished.
To relocate them to a new safe space, they will have to be contained in a crate for about a 6 week acclimation period so they do not try to return to their original location and get lost or killed in the process.
The cats are fixed, vaccinated, and tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
