Alone on the Pinellas Trail.
Skin and bones. Covered in scabs.
Too weak to run. Too sick to fight.
She’d already given up.

A kindly man picked her up-
Frail and scabby, she put up no fight.
He placed the poor girl in his car,
With compassion, he held her tight.

Phone calls were made to shelters all around,
but sadly it seemed, no help was to be found.

🚫 “We are full”
🚫 “We can’t help”
🚫 “Eww! No way! Put her down!”

Then he called Save Our Strays
😻 “Yes, we are full, but maybe we can help!”

💙 A volunteer stepped up and Bleu was named .
💙 Medical care began.
💙 A life was saved.

Great information from a rescue in Texas.

People have good intentions when they think they are saving young kittens by removing them... not realizing that the mom cat does not stay with her kittens all the time. They also don't realize the mom is going crazy looking for her babies. And staying with mom gives them their best chance of growing into healthy adult cats.
Just this morning, I have been contacted by 3 different people asking who can take these 1-3 weeks old kittens that they found. Clearly, we are not doing a good enough job educating people.
Any ideas on how to get the word out? Perhaps post images similar to this one on Nextdoor.com and on our personal pages, see if local pet stores will post a flyer, or ???

Cicero is a 14 week old white domestic shorthair male with beautiful green-hazel eyes. He has a tiny black smudge on his head, which he may grow out of. Fully vetted, microchipped and litterbox trained, he was recued from a neighborhood litter from a feral mom. He is sweet and loves to be petted and have his belly tickled. He will benefit from a few weeks of bonding with his new family to make sure his prior wild outdoor kitten days are replaced by indoor fun.

💕 The letter below is so sweet; we wanted to share it with all our followers…

Dear Save Our Strays,

One year ago today, my husband and I drove from Ocala to meet the "old cat" Betsy that no one wanted because she was "too old." Boy, did those foolish people miss out on the best cat EVER! She turned 15 in February, totally rules this house and keeps us on HER schedule which not only includes when and what to feed her, but also if one of us isn't seated at certain times of the day so she has a lap provided to her, she will be VERY vocal in telling us her displeasure with that!

As for "old," she will chase any object on a string from one end of the house to another. However, once she figures out that it's being controlled by us, she loses interest in it, and we have to get something new. For example, I got a laser light, but she looked up and saw that it came from something in my hand, and so it really wasn't a magical dot on the floor. When she realized the feathers she was chasing came from a pole I was holding, she sulked off until I switched the feathers for something else and hid the pole in the chair cushion. That caused her to think it really was something that had to be attacked and killed, since I was no longer controlling it.

We are just so thrilled to have her and also to report that she's in great health, just minus one canine tooth! Please let people know they should never give up an opportunity to save someone, despite their age.
