*If you don't see me on the adoption floor, please ask the staff about me.
*do not honor pledges unless marked as rescued at top of post above name

Hello Bear. He’s a neutered, 2 year old Labrador Retriever mix who weighs 61 pounds. He came in as part of a confiscate case. Bear is ready for a new beginning.
Bear is excited to greet visitors who stop by his kennel. He is talkative and is saying, “choose me to be a part of your family”.
Bear was eager to get outside and stretch his legs. He was in the yard with other dogs. He watched them, but his tail was wagging and he appeared ready to play. We always recommend meet and greets to ensure a good match.
Bear would love a yard where he can explore anytime he wants. He is ready for a family to give him lots of treats, and scratches on his chin and butt. Bear is a curious guy and super sweet.
Bear is waiting to meet you. Come visit him at Cumberland County Animal Services. No appointment needed. Bear is ready for a second chance and a family to share life and adventures with. 910 321-6852.

******UPDATE******
Spoke with Spring Lake Police Officer. Apparently it was a huge misunderstanding with a bail bondsman. No shooter was ever present.

_______________

PRECAUTIONARY URGENT UPDATE: There is no current immediate threat to the facility or staff. We had a couple clients tell us that allegedly At the Citi Trends in Spring Lake, close to National Barks Pet Resort there is an active shooter. I have not confirmed this but I'm being safe just in case. I have instructed the staff to lock down as a precaution until we here the all clear. Thank you for understanding.

Hi National Barks Pet Resort Family and Friends,

I want to make everyone aware of an incident we experienced on Friday (the 18th) at the facility. It is important to me that we are transparent, and you hear things straight from the source.

First, I want to assure you that everyone is or is going to be okay.

Friday, a very aggressive camper (we had no prior knowledge of the aggression) turned and bit several staff despite the safety measures and instructions being followed.

I first believed it to be redirect aggression from being overstimulated. After, the initial incident, the dog was lead to the quiet playfloor and outdoor area. He was on the floor for a couple minutes acting calm when he began seeking out staff and aggressively attacking unprovoked.

No other campers were involved, and the situation was mitigated quickly. Staff handled the situation very well and I am so proud of them!

Unfortunately, staff and myself were injured. As soon as the camper was under control, emergency action steps were implemented including contacting the pet parents, 911, and the authorities.

You may be aware of this already, as a few clients reached out when they saw emergency services at the facility, and it is important to me that I allay your concerns. All campers are being cared for and there is no need for concern. Staff are recovering nicely, and will be provided with any needed time off or support. We are licensed and insured.

I am available to answer any questions and can be reached directly through text at 910-292-9319.

Remember, accidents can happen despite experience and staff training. Be kind with your words in the comments.

Please rest assured that your pets are our priority. We are here for you!

Warmly,

Jessica Ellis

This is why so many dogs end up in shelters! If you have a high drive dog, enroll them in Day Camp. Let us burn that excess energy. Most importantly, do your research before getting a pet!

She has been a professional dog trainer since 2013, but has had compassion for animals her whole life. She believes the best way to keep dogs out of shelters, is through training.

Our positive-based training techniques are derived from the study of dog psychology and body language. Using humane, fear-free, and safe training methods, it is our goal to help dogs become happy and welcomed members of their families, just like Lilly and Sasha (pictured above).
