Paisley has been at DRU for just over a year. She had several meet and greets, but her perfect match took a little longer to find her โ€” through no fault of her own.

And then Joe came along.

A longtime DRU adopter, Joe knew right away that Paisley would be a wonderful fit for his home and his lifestyle. He has acres of beautiful property to explore, and Paisley will be right there beside him for all the adventures. Several times a day, Joe heads out on his electric bike to ride the land โ€” and now Paisley gets to run alongside him, sniff, explore, and chase as many squirrels as her heart desires!

After waiting so long, Paisley has finally found someone who appreciates her exactly as she is. A great home, endless room to roam, squirrels to chase, and plenty of adventures aheadโ€ฆ it sounds like a perfect match to us.

Abby went home yesterday, and we couldnโ€™t be happier for her. โค๏ธ

Abby came to us after the heartbreaking loss of one of her owners. Her family had been doing everything they could to care for her, but Abby needed more exercise and activity than they were able to provide. ๐€๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญโ€™๐ฌ ๐ž๐ฑ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ก๐ž๐ซ. ๐Ÿพ

Peter and Maryann had recently lost their beloved Doberman, and they were ready to open their hearts and home to another. They began searching for a Doberman and found their way to DRU. They have two Huskies, Fluff and Ginger, a huge yard, and they love taking the dogs hiking on Mount Wachusett.

They took their time during the meet-and-greet, making sure Abby was the right fit. They came to DRU several times so their dogs could get acquainted with her, and it didnโ€™t take long for us to see that these three were going to be good buddies. โค๏ธ

Abby, weโ€™re so happy you found your forever family โ€” and two happy Huskies to keep you active!

We have truly had more than our share of heartbreak lately, and today we had to say goodbye to a very special boy.

Russell was just 7ยฝ years old and had been at DRU for five years. Russell was diagnosed with DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) two years ago. We knew the time would come when his condition would no longer allow us to give him the quality of life he deserved. Today, complications from his disease brought us to that heartbreaking moment, and we made the decision to let him goโ€”a decision made with love, kindness, and dignity for Russell.

Russell never found the forever home we had hoped and prayed for him to have. But he was never without a family.

For five years, our staff and volunteers became his family. They knew his routines, his quirks, the things that made him happy, and the little things that made Russell, Russell. They were there for him day after day, giving him comfort, attention, affection, and all the love he deserved.

And oh, how he loved his Jolly Ball. โค๏ธ It was one of his favorite things, and those moments of watching Russell happily play with his Jolly Ball are the memories we will hold onto.

We wish we could have given him more time. We wish he had known the love of a forever family. But we know this: Russell was loved. He was cherished. He belonged.

Tyson came to DRU in June after his owner realized that traveling so much meant Tyson wasnโ€™t getting everything he needed. He had a great couple of months with the staff, who loved spending time with him and getting to know his sweet personality.

But today, Tysonโ€™s life gets even better! Heโ€™s heading home with Doug and Marisela, long-time Doberman owners who have welcomed many rescue Dobermans into their lives and are also previous DRU adopters!

And to top it all off, Tyson now has a sister and best friend, Luci! Just look at her beautiful face and how happy they are together.

Talk about hitting the jackpot, Tyson!

At 5 years old, Billie Jean is ready to find what she's been searching forโ€”a family to call her own.

Billie Jean came to DRU after her previous owner made the difficult decision to surrender her due to her leash reactivity to other dogs and her need for a securely fenced yard. Since arriving at DRU, she has shown us just how incredible she truly is.

Billie Jean loves to work! She has mastered her basic commands and is highly motivated by both treats and toys. She enjoys learning new things and has been working hard on her leash reactivity by participating in structured group walks with our staff.

When it's time to have fun, Billie Jean is all about it! She loves people, enjoys running and playing in the yard, and loves toysโ€”especially the durable kind. Plush toys don't stand much of a chance... they seem to mysteriously explode! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Billie Jean is crate trained, thrives with structure, and would be happiest as the only dog in her forever home, where she can receive the attention and guidance she deserves.

The hardest part of Billie Jean's story isn't why she came to DRUโ€”it's that she has spent too much time without the stability and love she deserves. She isn't looking for another stop along the way; she's looking for the place she can finally call home. After spending too much of her life moving from home to home, Billie Jean is ready for foreverโ€”a place where she can finally feel safe, loved, and truly home. โค๏ธ

Susan and Marina stopped by for their annual visit, and as always, they arrived with wonderful donations for our dogs! ๐Ÿ’•

This year, Billie Jean was there to greet them and share some Doberman love on behalf of all the shelter dogs. We are incredibly grateful for Susan and Marina's generosity, and for all of our amazing supporters who help make life a little brighter for our dogs. Your kindness provides comfort, enrichment, and so much happiness while they wait for their forever homes.

Molly's story didn't begin the way any dog deserves. She was found tied to a fence at a local animal shelter with only a bag of dog food and a jacket left beside her. Thankfully, she found her way to DRU, and now she's hoping to find the patient, understanding family she's been waiting for.

Molly is learning that people can be kind. She may be unsure when meeting someone new and isn't afraid to let you know how she feels with her vocal personality! But with time, patience, and consistency, she begins to relax and let her sweet personality shine. Once you're part of Molly's circle, she enjoys being close to the people she knows.

New experiences can still be overwhelming for Molly, and she's continuing to build confidence on walks. She'll thrive with someone who can help her navigate the world at her own pace with patience, encouragement, and consistency.

Molly is making great progress in our weekly training class. She's learning to be around other dogs in a structured setting and is doing better with each class. While she can still be a bit pushy with other dogs at times, she's responding well to training, and our hope is that she will continue to make progress beyond where she is todayโ€”especially with continued training and a patient owner committed to helping her succeed.

When it's time to play, Molly loves stretching her legs with zoomies around the yard. She'll happily chase a ball when you throw it, although she's still deciding what to do once she catches up to it! She's not much for toys, but she absolutely loves having room to run.

Veterinary visits can be stressful for Molly, so we recommend she wear a muzzle during exams to help make visits safer and less stressful for everyone. It's simply a management tool that helps set her up for success.

Molly is looking for a Doberman-savvy home that can provide the patience, guidance, and consistency she needs. She would do best in a home without children.

Molly has so much potential. Building a relationship with her takes time, but for the right person, she'll be a rewarding companion well worth the patience.

โค๏ธ A Very Special Day โ€” Happy Adoption Day, Apollo! โค๏ธ

Seven-year-old Apollo came to DRU in August 2025 as a shelter transfer. He arrived with several medical conditions that needed to be addressed before he could begin his search for a forever home. But through it all, Apollo remained his happy, loving self.

Today, we couldnโ€™t be happier to celebrate the next chapter of his life with his new family, Owen and Donna. They are long-time DRU supporters and adopters and true angels to our Senior and Special Needs Advocacy Program (SSNAP) dogs. They have opened their hearts and home to SSNAP dogs who needed extra care, patience, and a quiet environmentโ€”giving them the loving home they may not otherwise have had. They are truly special, and we are so grateful for the love they continue to give our dogsโ€”and now Apollo!

While Apollo was with us, he happily took on the role of official greeter for visitors to the shelter. He loves people, loves attention, and loves nothing more than having it be all about him! And honestly, we canโ€™t blame himโ€”he deserves every bit of it.
