Mya first came to DRU at 12 years old after a lifetime with her original family. She had been loved since the day they picked her up as a tiny puppy. Over the years, they worked tirelessly to help her navigate her anxieties, her fearfulness around strangers, and the increasing activity in the home as their family grew. They adored her โ truly adored her โ and did everything they could to keep her safe and comfortable. When it became clear that Mya needed a quieter, more predictable environment, they made the painful choice to surrender her to DRU so she could have the best chance of finding a home better suited for her needs. Their love for her never changed โ they stayed connected, supportive, and deeply invested in her well being throughout her entire stay with us.
Mya spent the next two years at DRU, where our staff absolutely spoiled her. She became part of our daily caretaking โ her quirks, her routines, her โqueen of the Dobermansโ attitude. She loved her walks, her quiet time, and the consistent, predictable routine provided by the people she trusted. She was safe. She was understood. She was loved every single day.
And thenโฆ her miracle arrived.
Suzanne, who has a long history of giving retired show Dobermans their golden years, had recently lost her beloved dog. Wanting to open her heart again โ especially to a senior โ she began searching shelters for an older Doberman who needed a home.
She found Mya on our websiteโฆ and that was it. She knew.
Suzanne didnโt just adopt Mya โ she prepared for her. She bought a ranch style home so Mya wouldnโt have to navigate stairs. She set up a velvet bed, toys, bones, and even a food and water dish fit for royalty โ because Mya has always believed she deserves nothing less.
And the most beautiful part? Mya, who has never been fond of strangers, walked into Suzanneโs home and accepted her almost immediately. She rests her head on her new mamaโs lap for attention. She follows her around. She has settled in as if sheโs known her forever.
