Local update on Equine Herpesvirus (EHV).
·
🚨 EHV OUTBREAK — IMPORTANT HORSE SAFETY UPDATE 🐴
The Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) outbreak that’s been spreading nationally has now reached our area. There has been a confirmed case at Tampa Bay Downs. This virus is highly contagious among horses and can cause respiratory illness, abortion in pregnant mares, and in severe cases a neurological disease called EHM.
Here’s what you should do to protect your horses:
🛑 Avoid shows and large social equine gatherings
• It’s best to sit this one out for right now
🩺 At risk/exposed horses: watch temperatures twice daily
• Take your horse’s re**al temperature morning & evening.
• A fever over 101.5°F may be the first sign of infection — call your vet immediately if you see one.
🚫 Isolate returning or exposed horses
• Anyone that has been to a show, rodeo, clinic, or event should be quarantined at home for at least 14–21 days before coming into contact with others.
🧼 Practice biosecurity
• Separate tack, water buckets, feed pans, grooming tools & blankets.
• Wash hands/hand sanitizer between horses
• Change clothes & disinfect boots between visits to other facilities.
• Clean and disinfect high-contact surfaces regularly.
📲If you suspect illness:
• Isolate the horse.
• Contact your veterinarian immediately for testing and guidance. Early detection is critical.
💉 Vaccination:
• Vaccines against EHV-1/EHV-4 can help reduce virus shedding and respiratory disease severity, but do not prevent all forms of illness. Speak to your vet about appropriate vaccination timing and protocols.

Meet "Moe". He says thanks to Nicole Miller for the pumpkins. Him/herself (too early to tell) Curley and Larry have moved away from home! They are in "Uncle Eggheads Nursery" at the end of the barn. They enjoy visitors! Their food is in a bag on the shelf next to their condo.

As we head towards the end of the year wondering how the devil it got here so fast, the tack room has quietly turned into retirement home of abandoned pads, firths and a few mystery items that might have never seen a horse.

To help us start the New Year fresh and tidy, we are asking everyone to:

Talk a walk through the tack room and label everything that belongs to you. Take home anything you no longer want.

Please complete by December 31.

Then to CELEBRATE your hard work, reserve the date for a New Years Pot luck on Saturday, Jan 3rd. We will be like Arbys and "have the meat" and you bring something yummy to share. Will put a list on the board so we don't end up with 20 lbs of potato salad. BYOB.

Lets kick off the new year with good food, good company and lots of laughs. We appreciate y'all!

Our story...

Why is it called Paddy’s Pastures - it becomes very obvious once you chat with Kevin! Native of Co. Mayo, Ireland and married to Theresa who was born and raised in Chicago. Married for 31 years as of January 2019, their 4 sons range from 21 to 30 years of age. Kevin Jr has travelled thru all of South America and is now based in Europe. Conor is travelling on the other side of world in Australia. Brendan is a US Marine and Brian is an electrician and now an only child since he lives in Sarasota.

Kevin manages the barn and he is always on the move. Theresa’s is responsible for the mower and spreader. Leo, Picket and Rena are the “grandpups”. Leo buries his bones in the arena, Picket buries his in the hay and Rena simply eats hers. You can often find them in Kevin’s Dodge relaxing to country music.

Love to have you visit!
