We have a great new “buy one, get one” spay/neuter match campaign 🥳🥰 sponsored by our incredible devoted animal lover Gefvert 🥳💕🥳. This event is in honor of Ylva’s beloved girl Lia whom is from Teleorman County and was rescued from a hellish shelter there.
Here’s Lia’s story as told by Ylva:

“I couldn't stop looking at her expression. So sad and longing. The box (kennel) was about 1.5 m2 and there were five (!) dogs living there. Her rescuer said "she never saw her on the floor. I don't know how she get food."
I thought I can not leave this dog there. It's unethical. So I decided to adopt and my husband said he would move, If I brought home a dog. But that proved to be just empty words.
Three years later we had three Romanian rescues, and I helped the little terrier, who was lucky to lie in the background that day. She lives happily in Germany now.
I named my dog Lia (after a dedicated rescuer in Cluj). Today Lia is about 15 years young (we have had her in 13 years). I happily match a campaign in Lia's previous area to prevent dogs from going to dog hell in this shelter. Greetings from Lia in Sweden.”

Our goal for this campaign is to spay/neuter up to 200 dogs and cats in Teleorman County Romania. Ylva will sponsor 100 sterilizations and we hope that with our incredible Romania Animal Rescue, Inc Dba Animal Spay Neuter International supporters we can see to it that 100=200 🙏

Nacho & Taco 🩵🩵

Two little souls, chained up in Romania… until this wonderful couple, while on holiday, was confronted with the harsh reality. They didn’t hesitate for a second and decided these pups deserved a different life.

But how do you take two dogs from a chain all the way to their forever home in Spain? There were some obstacles along the way, and that’s when they reached out to Nancy Janes. Together we searched for the best options, and of course Nacho & Taco were welcomed on board of the Happy Bus. 🚌💞

Now they’re on their way to their final destination: Barcelona 🌞🇪🇸. Where, once and for all, a loving home awaits them.

We wish this beautiful family all the happiness in the world, and we’re so grateful for your courage, dedication, and love in saving these two souls. Thanks to you, this duo has a wonderful future ahead! 💞 Safe travels back and may you enjoy every moment together!

Another glorious day for saving animals at RAR at Center of Hope 💝💝. 42 dogs and cats will never reproduce unwanted litters 👏💝🌹. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard 🌺. Including the Romania Animal Rescue, Inc Dba Animal Spay Neuter International Dream Team, Diana Maria Lazar who was up before the sun to get animals, and special thanks to Connie De Geus-Van Breugel for leaving her legacy to help prevent dog suffering 💝💝

Where would we be without the tireless dedication of our rescuers? 🙌🏻

So many animals would simply have no chance at all. These people fight day in, day out. They give everything they have, often forgetting themselves in the process. Their only motivation? The joy in the eyes of an animal finally beginning a better life 🥹.

The same goes for rescuer Gabriela & Zina. In 2022 we rescued her from the streets. She was no longer the youngest, and with each passing day her chances of adoption grew smaller. Yet she remained surrounded by care and love in the shelter. Still, the stress, the restlessness, and the small space often kept her from feeling truly at ease.

Until today… because today was finally the day ✨. Zina got to go. One step closer to a beautiful and loving home. But that also means saying goodbye. Goodbye to a dog you have cared for over the years, a dog you know inside and out. With both a smile and a tear, you let them go. Knowing this is the best farewell you could ever give them — in exchange for a future filled with warmth, safety, and happiness.

🙏 Thank you to all rescuers, everywhere. You are the quiet heroes changing lives 💞.

55 fortunate animals were spayed and neutered today by the Romania Animal Rescue, Inc Dba Animal Spay Neuter International at RAR at Center of Hope social hospital 💝💝💝. This day was made possible by the incredible support of Elizabeth Elstob whose love for animals shines through 🌺
30 animals were brought from Perisoru by the amazing Ancuta Dumitru 🥳. Perisoru was organized by our friend Anca Spinu who works tirelessly for the welfare of the animals.

Do you remember little Connie? 😍

That tiny, fragile pup of barely 2 kilos… badly hurt, yet somehow still alive against all odds.

As expected, the phone never stopped ringing—so many people wanted to give her a home. But Coco (formerly Connie) moved to a family who had already adopted from us before.

And just look at her now! 💖 Together with her big brother Chase, she’s truly enjoying life. Her family writes:

“Coco has grown so much—not just in weight, but especially in her confidence and puppy spirit. The road wasn’t always easy, there were definitely some bumps along the way. Chase became stressed for a while and a bit snappy towards Coco. Thankfully, we quickly reached out to Ellen and got the advice to walk them separately. It takes more time, but it gave them both so much peace. Coco found it scary at first to do things on her own, but she did so well! Where she used to bark at everything, she now walks along more relaxed and happily skips down the street. We even went to a café terrace during a walk in the dunes, and she sat there calmly, watching the world go by. She’s a real little diva 🥰.

These days, we’re also walking them together again. Chase has regained his calm, Coco shows less fear and more joy, and sometimes she can be a little cheeky (which secretly makes us laugh). My son said it beautifully today during a walk: ‘Mom, Coco is always so happy!’ ❤️ Just look at that picture with the football—pure gold, isn’t it?”

✨ This is exactly what we do it all for! Not just that one photo, but the entire transformation is pure gold. 💛

Our Story

Founded after a hiking tour in Romania in 2001, Romania Animal Rescue Inc and our sister charity Animal Spay and Neuter International (UK) has now spayed and neutered approximately 80,000. Our main focus since 2008 has been spay and neuter.We invented the “spayathons” that provide for massive spay and neuter for communities. A “spayathon” is when 30 or more animals are spayed and neutered at one event. RAR also runs (as donations allow) the Homeless Animals Hospital project that is the first of it’s kind project in Romania. HAH allows for free or subsidized treatment for the animals that need it most and have no other means of help. RAR sponsors the Veterinary Training Camp to train more Romanian vets on safe spay/neuter techniques. We have also distributed 18,500 education books. We have mobile spayathons and provide veterinary care with the RAR Red Van, campaigns with our HOPE spaymobile, spayathons at Family Vet clinic in Craiova, and at the new Center of Hope (www.centerofhope.com) We also just started our village outreach project called “Vet Patrol” whereby our vets/techs drive through villages spotting animals that need care and vaccines, then providing that service and doing spays or providing vouchers for spaying.
