We are desperately looking for temporary foster homes to help bridge the life of several pups from the brink of euthanasia to a chance to find their furever homes.

We provide all the vetting, food, pads (if needed) and a kennel. We just needs homes willing to provide safety, love, & care.

If interested, please contact Safe Haven Rescue MS .

May Charlotte be playing & running at rainbow 🌈 bridge.
Our hearts are broken after the sudden loss of Charlotte today after a routine spay surgery.
Sweet, loving, playful and full of life, stopped short.
In rescue, we face so many obstacles in various scenarios, but to have one die so young and unexpected, really hits hard.

Safe Haven Rescue MS has been busy lately. Lots of calls and luckily lots of lives saved with a bright future up North.

We currently need a little help with some added expenses. We have gotten MANY dogs needing groomed and sadly NO ONE offers to donate a groom much anymore.

We had Rosco & Chanel done last week and need the $106 to cover those.

We also have several dogs STILL needing HW treatment (Gigi & Lil Rose the most urgent) and are desperately trying to raise the $450-$550 each it'll cost for their treatment. This really is a life or death situation for these dogs.

We also have TONS of puppies in fosters and the puppy pads crisis is crazy. The cost is as much (if not more) than baby diapers.

We could use some puppy pads by donating or having some sent to our rescue. Olaf, Archie, Coop, Cole, Callie, Rolo, Allie, Fleet, Ryder, Aberdeen, and 10 Newborn pups would be forever grateful (as would the fosters)

And last, but not least, keeping pens clean for Lil Rose, Dutchess, Rosco, Buddy all require clean shavings. We get these from Tractor Supply local here in Brookhaven. Orders can be placed online for pick up (Safe Haven Rescue or Chris Segura) or we can pick up with donations.

We appreciate everyone who follows and helps our cause. Rescue is never easy, but we do it for the love of animals and are trying to make a difference.

Picture of Dottie, our newest intake yesterday. She is at least 12 yrs old, has cataracts, no teeth, and needs a medicated shampoo for her skin. But, she is as sweet as they come.

February has started with quite a few dogs and pups in our rescue. Many needing some extra care. We currently have Teddy Bear, Chanel, Olaf, Archie, Rosco, Petey, & Reggie all in need of a groom. That alone is very expensive. (Estimated $350-$400 for all. We put a plea out for any groomers who would possibly make a donated groom and had NO response, so we have no choice but to schedule for a paid groomer) PLUS we need to get dewormer, monthly preventions, and more vaccines ordered. (that is extremely costly over $1500).
If you are able to make a small donation to our rescue on behalf of all the dogs and pups in our care, it would be greatly appreciated. Please share and help spread the word so we can continue to help save lives.

Safe Haven Rescue MS has 4 dogs in need of grooming. We are praying for maybe a groomer to donate 1 or 2 to be groomed, and/or if we can raise $40 for each one to get the much needed groom they need.

Please consider sponsoring a pup in need.

353 lives were saved throughout 2024 for Safe Haven Rescue MS. Sadly, we lost a few along the way, but many went to new homes & families. Rescue is never easy, but it can be so rewarding. Our hearts break for the ones we lost, our hearts ache for the pain so many ensure before rescue. We cry tears of joy and tears of sadness.

Despite donations at an all time low, we are proud that we made a difference for so many who otherwise didn't stand a chance.

We have high vet bill debt still (over $7K) and because of that and no funds coming in for food, shavings, emergency care, and more, we are forced to be on intake hold until further notice.

This is NOT how we wanted to start 2025, and we know the calls will continue to come in, but we can't do this alone.

We are looking for sponsors who can potentially send a monthly donation ($50 or more per month) to help save lives. Being home foster based also means we are at the mercy of space for the ones we save.

Having multiple dogs & pups in each foster takes a lot of patience and love. We desperately need more fosters willing to share their home and love to save a life.

We hope everyone has a Happy New Year and we pray we can save more lives together in 2025.

It’s crucial to get outdoor pets ready for the impending cold snap next week! Highs in the 30's and lows in the teens are coming!
BRING THEM INSIDE: The best option is to keep all pets indoors. However, if they must stay outside, ensure they have adequate protection from the harsh cold. Breeds like Huskies are equipped to handle winter thanks to their thick double coats, which provide insulation. On the other hand, dogs like Pit mixes, with their thinner coats and exposed undersides, are more susceptible to the cold and should either be brought inside or given insulated shelter. Puppies and older, frail, or sick dogs are particularly at risk in cold weather and require additional protection.
PROVIDE SHELTER: When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, having access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed can help keep your dog warm. Dogs that are used to living indoors or in milder climates should not be left outside during freezing conditions. Make sure the shelter is readily accessible, as you may not be home when the temperatures plummet.
INSULATE SHELTER: While a plastic or wooden doghouse can shield them from wind, it won't keep them warm without proper insulation. Use straw bedding—not hay—to insulate outdoor shelters. If you’re using straw to insulate a doghouse, it should be packed tightly along the sides and back. The dog should be able to burrow down into the straw for warmth. Bales of straw typically cost $10 or less at local feed stores and can fill 3-4 doghouses.

The Forgotten Dog’s Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas when all thru the house,
Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.
The children all nestled snug in their beds,
With no thought of the dog filling their head.
And mom in her kerchief and I in my cap,
Knew the dog was cold but didn’t care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Santa Claus with his eyes full of tears.
He unchained the dog once so lively and quick,
Last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name,
And the dog ran to him despite all his pain.
Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen,
On Comet on Cupid on Donner and Blitzen.
To the top of the porch to the top of the wall,
Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by all.
I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year,
For Santa had made one thing quite clear.
The gift of a dog is not just for the season,
We had gotten the dog for all the wrong reasons.
In our haste to think of the kids a gift,
There was one important thing we missed.
A dog should be family and cared for the same,
You don’t give a gift, then put it on a chain.

And I heard him explain as he rode out of site,
“You weren’t given a gift, you were given a life.”

Who doesn't love and golden retreiver!!! Well, Buddy found himself homeless and alone. His owner (85 yr old woman) has loved Buddy for 9 years (yep, his entire life) and lost her home to a fire in late October.

She was forced to put Buddy in boarding as she searched for a place to stay. She was able to find temporary housing for herself, but not for Buddy.

Over 3 weeks in boarding, she decided to have him put to sleep since she couldn't afford to continue boarding and that is no life for Buddy.

We were notified of this decision and quickly stepped in to help. Buddy was taken to our vet for 1 night and then picked up by one of our amazing fosters.

Buddy settled in fine the first night. We even chuckled at him maneuvering himself in the doggie door. You see, Buddy is obese! 45-55 # overweight. How obese you ask..... 102 # on a body meant to be maybe 55 #.

Unfortunately, Buddy did not get along with the deaf male dog in the foster home and found himself back in boarding.

We desperately need to find a home for Buddy where he can decompress. Get lots of daily excercise with walks and no extra treats.

Please consider helping Buddy find his place and be safe and loved for the Christmas season. We need to get better assessment on him to ensure we place him in a proper home for his final years.

If you have ever considered becoming a foster, now is the time to open your home and your heart to give it a try. The joy it brings knowing you help save a life, is rewarding.

Please share and help Buddy find a soft bed and not a concrete floor for the holidays.
