Pen Pals, Inc. Animal Shelter Non-profit animal shelter located on the grounds of Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA. We are a dog and cat adoption facility.

Once we receive an animal in our care they are vaccinated, de-wormed, tested for major diseases, and before they leave for their forever home, they are spayed/neutered. We work solely on donations and volunteer veterinary services. We accept dog or cat food, blankets, towels, animal beds and of course toys to keep our pets busy. Tax free donations can be received in the form of check or money orde

Today we moved her to her foster mom. Thanks Holly and Trampled Rose Rescue & Rehab and Take Paws Rescue
These locals rescues pulled together and got our girl her FREEDOM RIDE!

Meet Flynn
The tiny wonder dog! He is 6 pounds of body with a 200 pound bark. This is sure to prove valuable to right home. Flynn is looking for a home without small children. Small children seem to scare him. One of the hardest jobs….animal services.
It’s even harder with all the human hurdles….Our phone rings “off the hook” for people begging us to help…
But, you need to think FIRST…
We do not have “foot traffic” here in the form of adopters. We are a prison.
We do not need your dog ….we have plenty.
We do not take in your problem, we have enough!
Sadly so many parishes DO NOT HAVE ANIMAL SERVICES….and that is not our fault. Sadly so many parishes/counties can not afford animal services.
What you can do, is voice your hopes at council members …and be understanding …..
It’s a hard situation, and we are surely open to listening. But please understand WE CAN NOT INTAKE PETS WITHOUT THE ABILITY to SUCCESSFULLY ADOPT or TRANSPORT

Rocketman is a cutie! This Heeler/Lab mix is 4 mths old AND NEEDS YOU!
Please don’t let him grow up in a shelter . It’s not fair that pets endure the faults of their owner. Sadly this puppy had a home with kids and love, but being a puppy “shoes and toilet paper became his toys”! Why? Because he was bored and pet toys was not supplied ….pets are not cheap.
Puppies are not easy….but they LOVE and give LOVE. And each ask for so little back….be a HERO to a PET that has ZERO!
Rocket is House Trained, walks well on a leash, lives to ride on a 4 wheeler and loves other pets…
