Dogfather Rescue, Inc. Dog rescue based in Cookeville, TN that focuses on rescuing, fully vetting, and re-homing sick or injured animals. Puppies are put on preventative immediately.

We are based out of Cookeville, TN and also service Overton, White, DeKalb, Cumberland and Jackson Counties. We specialize in sick or injured dogs, and as with all the animals we take in, they go immediately to Copeland Veterinary Hospital and are fully vetted. Our rescued animals are placed with a foster after being released from the vet, so that they can be kept as indoor family members, sociali

zed, and house trained, which gives them a better chance to be adopted, and make the adoption more successful. We never keep any of our rescues in cages or kennels. Practically all of our rescues are sick or injured strays that were found and surrendered by a citizen with a kind heart. 99% of them are injured, and have intestinal worms and/or heartworms, all of which require veterinary attention (scroll down my page to view my rescued animals and see where your support goes). Every animal taken in immediately goes to Copeland Veterinary Hospital for treatment of all injuries, plus any other health issues, and an overall examination to be sure there are no underlying health issues. Every animal is spayed or neutered, receives their age appropriate vaccinations, is tested/treated for internal as well as external parasites, and receives preventative to protect them from fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months are tested for heartworms. All canines are put on heartworm preventative as soon as possible.... this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. All Veterinary records are always transferred to the adopter, and a copy is always retained here and available for inspection. If anyone would like to help our rescued animals, you may call our vet Copeland Veterinary Hospital at 931-528-1111 (our preferred method) and donate under Dogfather Rescue, or if you prefer to use PayPal, the address is [email protected]

You may contact us if you have an animal in distress (fallen off a cliff, trapped in a hole in the ground, or stuck in a storm drain, drainage culvert, ect.) and Kevin will immediately come rescue that animal, as long as he is not at work. Kevin works a full-time factory job from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Rest assured, if Kevin is at work, he will come as soon as he gets off work. In non-emergency cases, it may take us a day or two to find a foster for an animal you want to surrender.... If we are going to be responsible for the animal, things must be done properly to ensure the animal has a safe place to go. However, if the animal is sick or injured, he/she can usually be taken directly to Copeland Veterinary Hospital for treatment, and we will work on finding a foster while the animal is undergoing treatment. About Kevin Smith Coordinator:
Kevin has been an animal lover all of his life, especially dogs. He began his rescuing journey when he became a rescue transporter in 2000. He is an active member of Animal Rescue and Animal Rights and is an ASPCA Guardian. He has expanded his passion for saving animals into his own rescue so that he can help even more unfortunate animals and place them in safe forever homes. He devotes 100% of his time to this mission because it truly is his passion for these animals. He is on call 24/7 and can be reached at 931-260-4953, although he works a full-time job in a factory and can't answer the phone while he is there. However, you can text him or send a message via this page and he will answer on his very next break period. Dogfather Rescue depends solely on volunteer fosters and donations to pay for medical bills for our rescue animals. We are always looking for foster parents for our animals that are in need of a loving and caring temporary home. Get Involved! It’s SUPER EASY! Here’s How! Become a Foster Parent: Fostering animals is a rewarding experience! Contact Kevin to become a foster parent today! Dogfather Rescue will takes care of the costs associated with veterinary treatment needed in order to ensure the animal becomes healthy again, gets up to date on shots and also spay or neuter the animal too. We only ask that our foster parents provide a safe home, the daily necessities for the animal, participate in the veterinary treatment plan, and give lots of love and care to help rehabilitate and rebuild the trust in the animal until they find their forever home. Donate: Can’t adopt or become a foster parent right now, but still want to help? You can! Simply donate toward the care of the animals. We accept monetary donations and we also gladly accept crates, beds, dog toys, treats, food, and anything else that can help with the health and comfort of our animals while they are in our care. There are people trying to scam people by selling merchandise claiming to be affiliated with my rescue. It is a scam!!! I have been closed for several years and I have not been getting on to this page because it breaks my heart that I lost my dream of having my rescue, but unfortunately I had to close because of COVID. Anyway, beware of these people running these scams.

I just wanted to post an update for those that remember Petey and show everyone how happy he is now. ❤️🐕❤️

I've had a lot of people message me and ask me why I haven't rescued any dogs in a while, so I will explain. Honestly, I have tried to keep this private until it was over because it is rather embarrassing, but I suppose I can't hide it any longer. Rescue has always been a struggle because I only took in very sick and injured animals so my vet bills were always rather large, but with the publics help I always managed. However, when Covid hit in 2019 donations dwindled down to practically nothing so I had to file chapter 13 bankruptcy after putting too many vet bills on credit cards.
So, as embarrassing as it is to admit, now you know. Around 1/3 of my paycheck gets automatically drafted out and goes to the bankruptcy each payday, And even though I kept rescuing as best I could, I eventually wound up in a position where I just couldn't do it anymore and remain able to take care of the 3 rescues I have here at home that I decided to keep. If you followed my rescue, you know which 3 dogs those are. I love them more than anything on this Earth so I had to to make the decision to take care of them and put them first.
I have about 2 years of payments to go and then this should be over. I've never been through this before, so I can't say for sure, but hopefully I will be able to start rescuing again when this is over, at least that is my plan.
I apologize for having to make this post, but I just have too many people asking what the problem is, so I had to explain. Again, I do apologize, but this has made me feel like a failure and I'm sorry for trying to hide it.
Please just keep in mind that I took in the worst of the worst, I do believe you all know that. I am just one person, I have no team, no help, I always had to do it on my own and I did the best I could.
