There is so much to learn at the Wilson’s live owl presentation, including ways we can help owls and other raptors thrive in the wild or co-exist with humans where necessary.

Mark & Marcia Wilson are well-known for their owl rescue and expertise. This skilled team of professionals has travelled far and wide researching owls in their natural environment. They are coming to Sandwich, NH in August with their beautiful rescued owls to share their experiences with all of us owl enthusiasts and nature lovers.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see these incredible birds LIVE and UP CLOSE!

The Wilson’s bring decades of knowledge and insights to the EYES ON OWLS program which they present in schools, environmental conferences, nature centers, land trusts and museums all over New England. ATTENTION: As of April 21, 2025, we are unable to take on new clients. We will update this post when our client list is open again but we do not expect that we will be able to accommodate new clients until the fall.
This is not a decision we come to lightly and we know how hard it is to find care right now. Our commitment to our current clients and patients, though, guides this decision so we can provide care, both emergency and preventative, in a timely fashion.

Carl thinks that sun sure feels good but melting snow means ticks are officially out! We’ve already had at least one client come in this week reporting they’ve found a tick on their dog.
If you don’t keep your pets on year-round tick preventatives, it’s time to start back up.
Make sure to check when you put that Seresto collar on - they are only effective for 6 months.

RECALL ALERT - Wild Coast Raw is recalling lots of frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food for cats because it has the potential to be contaminated with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 also known as bird flu. H5N1 can be transmitted to animals eating contaminated product.

The product, 16oz and 24oz frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw pet food for cats, was distributed to pet food retailers in Washington State and Oregon. The product is frozen in a small round white plastic container with a green label.

The affected lots are identified by a sticker on the lid with a number of #22660, #22653, #22641, #22639, #22672 and #22664 with a Best Buy date of 12/25. The recall is widened to include any raw material sharing similar production dates and lot codes as #22660 and #22664. These two lot codes were included in the WSDA’s public health alert on 2/14. We had our first suspected leptospirosis case this past weekend. What is leptosirposis? It kind of sounds like a Harry Potter curse. Yup, it is a "curse" that can attack the kidneys and the liver.

It is common in the spring and fall when we have a lot of puddles and moisture on the ground. When a rodent that carries this bacteria urinates in a puddle, your pet drinks or steps in it and then licks their paws, they can become infected.

it can be seen in rural areas as well as urban areas. In downtown Philadelphia or Boston, it can be seen due to the rodent population, even on side walks!

If your pet walks son damp leaves or licks their paws... they can be at risk!
This typically affects dogs more than cats.
There is a vaccine for it! You can vaccinate your dog against this bacteria. Since it is a bacteria and NOT a VIRUS, the vaccine is due EVEREY YEAR. An easy way to remember this is that the two L vaccines ( Lepto and Lyme) are due every year.

Although treatable, your pet can become VERY sick and require intense ICU care. Talk to your veterinarian about the lepto vaccine today if your pet hasn't had it!

Urgent Missing in Tamworth NH – “Delilah” is a female Newfoundland, grey/black, 4 years, 135 pounds. She is wearing an orange harness with tag, is microchipped, and is Dragging a Leash. Delilah is friendly with people but does not like other dogs. Missing since 9/3/2024 from the area of Pease Hill Road and Route 113A. She is new to the area. Please share her flier and watch for her in the Tamworth area.
