WoooooHooooo, today is World Lion Day!

Lions are the second largest big cat species worldwide. Tigers are the largest!
They live in groups called prides. They are the only big cat that lives is a social family group like ours.
A lion’s lifespan is about 10-14 years in the wild.
Only male lions have manes. Their manes protect them during a skirmish and attract the females. The darker the mane, the more attractive to the girls.
A lion's roar can be heard for five miles!

Aesa and Gaia, our females and Sango and Jelani, our males, are our lions. We are thrilled to have them as part of our animal family.

Come see us today and come early. We are open until 6:00pm, admission closes at 5:00pm.

Be sure to stop by our lion's habitats and wish them a Happy World Lion Day!

"Get to Know Our Animals!"

You are looking at a very handsome, Texas Longhorn, named Mack.

Mack was donated to our Zoo by a private owner. Did you know?

Texas Longhorns are known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in harsh conditions, including extreme heat and drought.

They played a crucial role in the cattle drives of the 19th century, helping to establish the cattle industry in Texas.

The Texas Longhorn is not only a symbol of Texas pride but also the official state large mammal of Texas.

You can catch a glimpse of Mack when you hop on our train for a ride.

Come and see Mack and all our animals!

All of us at Austin Zoo love this day! It is Global Tiger Day!

Isn't she is the most beautiful White Tiger? We think so!

Approximately 100,000 tigers roamed the wild a century ago, while current estimates suggest there are only about 3,900 remaining today, and this number is decreasing. Together we can save the Tiger!

Fun facts about Tigers:
Tigers are the largest wild cats in the world.
Tigers are apex predators.
Tigers can run up to 40 miles per hour.
Tigers’ stripes are individualized patterns, much like human fingerprints, allowing each tiger to have a distinctive and easily recognizable coat.
If you shaved off all the hair on a Tiger, you would still see their stripe pattern, it is in the pigment of their skin.
Tigers love to swim.

Come see Zulema, she loves people!

Learning about Zoo jobs, a Zookeeper Chat featuring our Silver Foxes, seeing an amazing Parrot, spending some time with our Goats and exploring our Discovery Center were just some of the activities to kick off this camp. Our Discovery Center is home to some of our reptiles.

Thank you to everyone who chose Austin Zoo as their Summer Camp destination!
